Softball Earns Split with Lindenwood-Belleville

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – For the second time this week, the William Woods University softball team earned a doubleheader split. On Friday afternoon, the Owls split its doubleheader with (RV) Lindenwood-Belleville. The Owls dropped game one, 3-2, before rebounding taking game two, 6-3.
 
The split for the Owls was its third of the season and improves the Owls record to 22-19 on the season and 8-10 in the AMC. The Owls currently sit in eighth place in the AMC with the top eight advancing to the AMC Conference Tournament.
 
William Woods returns to action on Saturday, April 15th when they host St. Louis College of Pharmacy at 11 a.m. at Owl Field. The Owls will honor its members of the senior class.
 
Game One
Game Flow

In game one the Owls and Lynx were stunned at the plate by both pitchers, not being able to hit out of the infield and both teams were held hitless for the first three innings of the contest. The game would remain scoreless with Sierra Jacques being a force to reckon with on the mound.
 
In the top of the fourth inning, Dacrie Depping sparked the offense with a leadoff single. Ari Arnold added a single of her own, joining Depping on the bases. Amnda Bouchey would come up and hit a clutch single to center, and Depping would score on a Lynx error, putting the Owls head 1-0. Hillary Hentges would reach on a hit by pitch, which loaded the bases for the Owls. Lindsay Van Tress would put the ball in play and reached on a fielders' choice which scored Arnold, extending the Owls lead to 2-0.
 
The Owls would keep the lead until the bottom of the sixth inning. Entering the sixth inning, Sierra Jacques had kept the Lynx bats hitless. With one hit, the Lynx would score three, taking the lead 3-2, going into the seventh.
 
Beth Begeman made a pinch-hitting appearance in the top of the seventh and came up with a leadoff single. Hannah Campbell would reach on a fielder's choice getting the lead runner out. Campbell advanced to second on a single by Madison McCormick. With two outs and the bases loaded the Owls were down to its final out. WWU could not get the tying run across the plate and the Owls dropped game one, 3-2. Jacques picked up the loss despite throwing a one-hitter.

Game Two
Game Flow

The Owls would start out slow in the second game when the Lynx got an early lead, scoring in the bottom of the second. Rebecca Touchette would hit a solo home run in the inning putting the Lynx ahead, 1-0.
 
The Owls would add one of their own in the top of the third when Depping hit a triple to right center and Arnold brought her in on a sacrifice fly to deep left-center, tying the game at 1-1.
 
William Woods extended its lead to 4-1 in the top of the fourth inning. Alli Massey reached on Lynx error and Brailee Schulte reached on a hit by pitch. With runners in scoring position, Begeman pinched hit for the Owls and she hit a triple to right center, scoring both Massey and Schulte. Olivia Imhoff would pinch run for Begeman and would cross the plate when Campbell knocked her in with a double, putting the Owls ahead, 4-1.
 
Taylor Win and Zole Villa would come up for the Lynx as both would hit solo home runs in the bottom of the fourth inning trimming the Owls lead down to 4-3.
 
The Owls would score another run in the fifth when the Owls took advantage of fielding errors. The Owls lone run came into score on a Schulte walk.
 
The top of the sixth inning would bring in another run for the Owls when Campbell's leadoff single and a  stolen base, put her in scoring position. Depping would execute a sacrifice bunt and would advance on the throw to score, putting the Owls ahead 6-3.
 
The Lynx only got one runner on base in the bottom of the sixth inning before an inning ending double play. The Lynx tried to get a rally going in the bottom of the seventh off Owls pitcher Allison Waskow, but could only muster one hit and the Owls came away with a 6-3 victory.
