Offense Leads Softball Past Pharmacy on Senior Day

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team scored 34 runs in the doubleheader sweep of the Eutectics of St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Saturday afternoon at Owl Field in Fulton, Missouri. WWU came away with a 19-0 win in game one and a 15-0 win in game two.
 
In the second game, Owls starter Bre Logan threw a no-hitter against the Eutectics. The Owls pitching staff only allowed two hits to the Eutectics in the doubleheader.
 
WWU returns to action on Monday, April 17 when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri to face Harris-Stowe State University. First-pitch is set for 2 p.m.
 
Game One
Game Flow

After a scoreless top of the first inning, the Owls got the offense scoring in the first. With two on and two outs, Hillary Hentges drew a walk to load the bases for the Owls. Alli Massey drove in the first run for the Owls when she singled through the left side putting the Owls head, 1-0.
 
The Eutectics got one of their two hits off Sierra Jacques in the second inning of the contest. Bethany Oberlink doubled to left field but could not get another hit to score the run.
 
William Woods broke the game in the game open in the bottom of the second inning. WWU scored seven runs on three hits in the second inning. WWU took advantage of walks the Eutectics issued. Hentges drove in one on an RBI single. Later in the inning, Alexi Cavins singled home another and the Owls led 8-0 after two innings.
 
WWU added to its lead in the bottom of the third inning. Hannah Campbell led off the inning with a triple and Regan Wilde hit a sacrifice fly scoring the first. Hentges collected another RBI on a single and Emily Robinett hit a sacrifice fly scoring one and the Owls led 11-0 after the third inning of play.
 
Jacques allowed a leadoff single in the fourth, the last hit for the Eutectics would get. After the hit, the Next three hitters were retired. WWU grew its lead to 19-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning. WWU scored eight runs on five hits and took advantage of two Eutectics errors.
 
Jacques walked the first in the top of the fifth inning before retiring the next three batters and the Owls won game one, 19-0.

Junior Bre Logan dominated in the circle in the second contest as she did not allow the Eutectics to get a hit in the contest. During the contest, she struck out seven batters and did not issue a walk. She had a perfect game going until the Owls committed an error in the top of the fifth inning.
 
WWUs offense stayed hot for the second game of the doubleheader as they scored four runs in the first inning. William Woods scored its first run when Hillary Hentges drew a bases loaded walk. Brailey Schulte singled through the left sides scoring another for the Owls. Jessica Bradfisch and Alexi Cavins each collected an RBI and the Owls led 4-0 after one inning.
 
The Owls offense added to its lead in the bottom of the second inning as they added four more runs and grew its lead to 8-0. Beth Begemann came up big in the inning with a RBI double. She was driven in by a Hentges triple.
 
Logan did not let the Eutectics get anything going in the top of the third as she struck out all three in the inning.
 
William Woods continued to add to its lead as they scored two more in the third inning. The Owls scored on a Begemann sacrifice fly and another on a Hentges single up the middle. WWU led 10-0 after three innings of play.
 
WWU scored five runs in the fourth inning and grew the lead to 15-0 going to the top of the fifth inning. With a perfect game on the line, the first batter for St. Louis Pharmacy reached on an error to end the perfect game. Logan settled down and retired the next three hitters and she picked up the no hitter and the Owls came away with a 15-0 victory over Pharmacy.
