Softball Sweeps Harris-Stowe

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team ran its winning streak to five games with a sweep of Harris-Stowe State University on Monday afternoon. The Owls took game one, 10-0 in five innings, and won game two, 5-1.
 
The Owls return to action on Saturday, April 22nd when they host Central Baptist College at Owl Field. First-pitch is set for 1 p.m.
 
Game One
Game Flow

The Owls offense took advantage of Hornet walks in the first inning. Hannah Campbell drew a walk and then stole second base. She advanced to third on a Regan Wilde single putting runners on the corner. Madison McCormick hit a sacrifice fly scoring Campbell putting the Owls ahead, 1-0. WWU looked as if they would score more as had a hit by pitch and another walk to load the bases but could not get a run across.
 
Freshman, Madison Ausfahl kept the Hornets off balance for the contest as she only allowed five hits in the contest. She allowed one hit in the first inning before retiring the next two to end the inning.
 
William Woods grew its lead to 3-0, in the top of the second inning. With the bases loaded, McCormick singled through the hole on the right side scoring two runs. WWU continued to add to its lead in the top of the third inning when they scored five runs on four hits. Brailee Schulte led the inning off with an inside the park homerun. Hannah Campbell drove in two on an RBI triple and Wilde collected an RBI. After two and a half innings the Owls led 8-0.
 
The Owls lead grew to 10-0 in the top of the fourth inning. With Schulte on second, the next two Owls were retired. Lindsay Van Tress drew a walk and Hannah Campbell singled loading the bases. Schlulte came into score on a bases loaded walk by Wilde. Dacrie Depping came into pitch hit for the Owls and drew another bases loaded walk putting the Owls ahead, 10-0.
 
Ausfahl kept the Hornets off balance in the fifth inning as she struck out two of the three batters in the frame. WWU came away with a 10-0 victory in game one.

Game Two
Game Flow

The Owls offense got on the board in the top of the first of game two as Sierra Jacques had an infield single and went to second on a stolen base. After the next two Owls were retired, Beth Begemann hit an inside the park home run putting the Owls ahead, 2-0.
 
William Woods grew its lead to 3-0 in the top of the second inning. The Owls loaded the bases on three straight seconds. With the bases loaded, Jacques reached on a fielder's choice scoring one. That would be all the Owls would get in the inning.
 
Harris-Stowe scored its lone run of the day in the bottom of the second inning. Emily Lavine tripled to right center and scored on a Daylon Brooks ground out trimming the Owls lead down to two, 3-1.
 
The game remained 3-1 until the top of the sixth inning. In the sixth, Emily Robinett and Amanda Bouchey put two runners on. Robinett came into score on an Alexis Armontrout single putting the Owls ahead, 4-1. McCormick singled to left scored another run putting the Owls ahead, 5-1.
 
The Hornets put two runners on base in the bottom of the sixth inning when Nakeyah Bradford singled and Cassidy Williams reached on a walk. However, Owls starter, Bre Logan got a pop out and struck out Lavine to end the inning
 
After a scoreless top of the seventh inning, the Owls came out to close out the game in the seventh. In the seventh, Logan got Brooks to ground out, Keshundrea Bradley to strike out and Kyra Greer to ground out to the pitcher's mound to end the game. WWU came away with a 5-1 win in game two.
