Baseball Completes Series Sweep of Hannibal-LaGrange

HANNIBAL, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team concluded a three-game series sweep of Hannibal-LaGrange University on Saturday afternoon. The Owls won the third game of the series, 10-7, over the Trojans.
 
With the win the Owls improve to 24-26 on the season and 16-11 in the AMC. Tyler Cunningham and Glen DesBouillons led the Owls with three hits apiece in the contest. Tyler Bracht drove home three in the win. Ryan Phillips picked up his team-high eighth victory of the season.
 
WWU returns to action on Tuesday, April 25 when they travel to Canton, Missouri to close out its non-conference schedule against Culver-Stockton College. First pitch of the single nine inning contest is set for 3 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Owls took advantage of an error by the Trojans to get its offense clicking in the first inning of play. After Alex St. Pierre reached on an error, Tyler Cunningham singled putting two runners on. With two on and two outs, Glen DesBouillons doubled home one run putting WWU ahead, 1-0. Cunningham came into score later in the inning on a wild pitch putting the Owls ahead, 2-0.
 
Hannibal-LaGrange battled back in the bottom of the second inning as they took advantage of back-to-back errors by the Owls to open the inning. The Trojans than came up with timely hits taking a 3-2 lead over the Owls after two innings of play.
 
The game remained 3-2 until the top of the fourth inning. In the fourth, the Owls scored three runs on four hits taking a 5-3 lead. Tyler Bracht recorded a two run RBI single and he came into score on another Trojans wild pitch. The lead was cut down to two, 5-4, in the bottom of the inning when Seth Brown singled home Edward Corniel.
 
The Owls would proceed to score five unanswered runs in the next three innings taking a 10-4 lead over the Trojans. In the top of the fifth inning, WWU scored two runs on two hits and took advantage of two Trojans errors. WWU came back scoring one in the sixth inning the Owls scored another. The Owls last runs of the day came in the seventh on a Cunningham single, which scored two, putting the Owls ahead 10-4.
 
Hannibal-LaGrange would slowly start a comeback in the bottom of the eighth inning when they scored two runs on four hits. In the frame, Jordan Knight singled one home run and Matt Jones singled home another making the Owls lead four, 10-6.
 
After the Owls could not score in the top of the ninth inning, the Trojans continued to attack in the bottom half of the inning. Dalton Christian struck out the first two Trojans he faced in the inning before the next three would reach base. Victor Bautista singled to shallow left field, making the game 10-7. That would be all the Trojans would get as they would leave the bases loaded as Matt Jones grounded out to end the game.
