Men's Soccer Falls to Central Methodist, 2-0

FAYETTE, Mo. – The William Woods University men's soccer team was shutout by Central Methodist, 2-0, on Wednesday evening. With the loss, the Owls fall to 0-1-1 on the season.
 
David Marshall had one of the two shots for the Owls, with his shot being the only shot on goal. Darren Wilson had the other shot for the Owls. Conor Cable made a game-high three saves.
 
The Owls return to action on Friday, September 1st when they travel to Bourbonnais, Illinois to face No. 18 Olivet Nazarene University in non-conference action. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Owls offense struggled in the first half against the Eagles as WWU did not attempt a shot in the half. Central Methodist's offense came out fast as Guzman Pery hit the crossbar on the Eagles first shot. Three minutes later Leonardo Ferri had a shot on goal that Cable saved.
 
Central Methodist had two more shot attempts in the first half but they both went wide or high of goal and the game went scoreless into halftime.
 
WWU's first shot of the game came in the first seven minutes of the second half. David Marshall fired a shot on goal but Vince Gelei made the save keeping the game scoreless.
 
The Eagles continued to put pressure on the Owls defense as they had shots by Santiago Sierra and Leonardo Ferri go high. With 20:45 left in the half, Sierra put a shot on goal that Cable saved keeping the game scoreless.
 
Central Methodist found the back of the net five minutes later as Paulo Vac Claudio took a pass from Junior Kazeem for the first goal of the game. A minute later, the same duo connected again for a goal putting the Eagles ahead, 2-0.
 
William Woods only had one more shot in the contest when Darren Wilson fired a shot that went high of goal. WWU fell to the Eagles, 2-0.
