Women’s Soccer Falls to Central Methodist, 3-0

FAYETTE, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team dropped its second straight contest on Wednesday evening as they were defeated 3-0 by Central Methodist University in non-conference action.
 
Jenna Vogt led the Owls with two shots in the contest. Aurora Henriksen followed with one shot on goal. Rebecca Sturgess recorded eight saves for the Owls in the contest. Central Methodist outshot the Owls 20-3 in the contest.
 
The Owls return to action on Friday, September 1st when they travel to Manhattan, Kansas to face Manhattan Christian College. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Owls had the first scoring chance in the contest as Aurora Henriksen found a clear lane to fire the Owls first shot. Her shot was saved by Ronja Andersson keeping the game scoreless with 27:14 left in the half. WWU did not register another shot in the half.
 
Five minutes later, the Eagles had a scoring chance in the first half. Anika Kallash had a shot on goal but Sturgess made the save.
 
Central Methodist continued to keep the pressure on the Owls defense. After back-to-back shots went wide, Kallash and Elly Boothe put shots on goal but Sturgess made the saves. Kallash's third shot of the half, got past Sturgess putting the Eagles ahead 1-0. WWU would trail 1-0 going into halftime.
 
The Eagles added to its lead in the first seven minutes of the second half, when Nely Martinez took a pass from Judith Sainz and beat Sturgess putting the Eagles ahead 2-0.
 
Six minutes later, the Owls had a scoring chance. WWU had the Eagles goalkeeper out of position and Jenna Vogt fired a shot on goal. However, the Eagles defense came up with a save keeping the Owls off the board. Forty seconds later, Vogt took her second shot of the game, which went high of goal.
 
Central Methodist's Kallash added one more goal in the contest putting the Eagles ahead 3-0 with 13:40 left in the contest. WWU dropped the match, 3-0.
