MANHATTAN, Kan. – The William Woods University women's soccer team claimed its first win of the 2017 season when they defeated Manhattan Christian College, 8-0, on Friday afternoon.
The Owls held Manhattan Christian College with a shot for the contest. WWU scored a season high seven goals in the contest, by six different players. WWU collected 31 shots in the contest.
WWU returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, September 2nd when they face Sterling College at 3 p.m.
Game Flow
Within the first five minutes of the contest, the Owls the Owls recorded its first goal of the season. With 40:40 left in the contest,
Shelby Scanlan scored her first goal of the contest putting the Owls ahead, 1-0. Seven minutes later, Scanlan added her second goal of the game when she took a pass from
Aurora Henriksen and beat the goalie.
WWU made it 3-0 when
Jenna Vogt scored four minutes later. Vogts goal would be the last goal for the Owls in the first half of the contest. WWU took a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Thirty seconds into the second half, the Owls added its fourth goal of the game.
Dani Bray found Collen Bayer for a goal to open the second half.
Leah Bonugli added to the Owls lead in the contest to 5-0 when she scored her first goal of the season with 33:45 left in the half. Two minutes later
Dani Bray scored her first goal after assisting on two earlier in the contest.
Shelby Wiebe added the final goal of the contest for the Owls making it 7-0. WWU's defense continued to play solid as Manhattan Christian College did not get a shot and the Owls came away with a 7-0 victory.
