Volleyball Opens AMC Play With Sweep

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University Volleyball team opened American Midwest Conference play on Tuesday evening as they defeat Hannibal-LaGrange University in three sets, (25-14, 25-18, 25-11).
  
William Woods collected 49 kills in the match, led by Abby Ferguson and Kate Doerhoff who had nine kills each. WWU's Brittney Engelbrecht had 33 assists in the match. WWU had three blocks in the win.

The Owls return to action on Friday, September 15th when they travel to Lawrence, Kansas to face Haskell Indian Nations University. The match is set to start at 6 p.m.
 
Game Flow
Set one would go point for point until the Owls would run away with an 11-point lead with a service run from Brittney Englebrecht. During the run, the Owls added three kills by Rayleen Rivera, a kill by Kira Krebill, and three kills from Kate Doerhoff taking a 19-8 lead. The Owls would add three more kills before ending the first set with a kill from Ferguson. WWU took set one, 25-14.
 
The Trojans would control the second set scoring the first seven of the ten points, 7-3. The Owls would chip away at the lead and Jessica Jensen and Melanie Kala had a service run tallying nine points putting the Owls ahead 21-14. In that run, Jensen and Kala collected an ace apiece and the Owls added kills by Ferguson, Kameryn Bellinger, and Brittney Engelbrecht. The Trojans added four more points before the Owls would close out the second set, 25-18.
 
The third set started out with both teams going kill for kill with Shelby Maupin keeping the Trojans in the running with the Owls offense. Kala would go on a seven-point service run adding a kill by Ferguson and the Owls took a 9-2 lead. The Owls continued to push on as they extended their lead to ten after a kill by Krebill, 15-5. A kill by Brooke Reed would ignite the Owls once more, and a kill by Doerhoff put the Owls ahead 17-6. Jensen would have a service run of two points, both kills by Megan Rogers and Ferguson putting the Owls ahead 21-8. The Trojans would be able to add three more points before the Owls would end the set with kills by Ferguson and Remie Johnson and the Owls took set three, 25-11.
