Women’s Soccer Falls to Missouri Baptist, 2-1, in Overtime

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team was defeated 2-1, by Missouri Baptist University, 2-1, in the overtime in the American Midwest Conference Game of the Week on Saturday afternoon.
 
Aurora Henriksen scored the lone goal for the Owls in the loss. She was assisted by Kylie Roach on her goal. WWU was outshot 25-8 in the match.
 
William Woods returns to action on Tuesday, September 19th when they host Hannibal-LaGrange University at Firley Field. The Owls and Trojans kickoff at 7 p.m.
 
Game Flow
William Woods offense came out looking to score early in the contest as Shelby Scanlan had a shot on gal that was saved. Three minutes later, Claire Stark had a shot that the Spartans blocked. Following those two shot attempts the Owls got on the board as Aurora Henriksen took a pass from Kylie Roach and beat the Spartans goalie putting the Owls ahead, 1-0.
 
Both teams continued attacking in the first half but neither team could get anything going in the half as their shots were either wide or high of goal or saved and the Owls took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
 
Missouri Baptist came out and scored early in the second half. The Spartans offense came out and pressured the Owls defense and with 31:22 left in the game the Spartans Haylee Eastridge took a pass from Casey Gutting for a goal tying the contest at 1-1.
 
Both teams had shots late in the contest but both shots were either blocked or went wide and the contest went to overtime.
 
The Spartans had the best scoring chance early in the contest as Easteridge had a shot on goal that Rebecca Sturgess saved with in the first wo minutes of overtime. After a shot by Henrisken was saved by Alexandra Lair, the Spartans went down and had a shot by Eastridge saved by Sturgess. A minute and a half later, Eastridge scored the game winning goal when she beat Sturgess on a pass by Casey Gutting.
