Scanlan Leads Women’s Soccer Past Hannibal-LaGrange

FULTON, Mo. – Shelby Scanlan collected a hat trick as the William Woods University women's soccer team defeated Hannibal-LaGrange University, 6-0, on Tuesday night at Firley Field.
 
Besides, Scanlan's three goals, the Owls had goals by Claire Stark, Dani Bray and Jaclyn Zilch. WWU outshot the Trojans 34-2 in the contest.
 
WWU returns to action on Saturday, September 23rd when they travel to Conway, Arkansas to face Central Baptist College in AMC action. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
 
Game Flow
William Woods offense looked to be clicking early in the first half of the contest, as they had a shot missed wide in the first five minutes. Five minutes later, the Owls Shelby Scanlan scored her first goal of the night on an assist by Aurora Henriksen.
 
WWU defense kept the pressure on the Trojans Maci Colter to one shot in the contest, which was missed wide in the first half. Colter leads the AMC in goals this season with 11.
 
The Owls continued to put pressure on the Trojans defense as they had 14 shots in the first half, but could only get one shot past the Trojans goalie Madi Allen. WWU took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
 
In the second half, the Owls exploded for five goals in the second half. With 36:34 left in the contest, Claire Stark took a pass from Alex Langford putting the Owls ahead 2-0. Five minutes later, Scanlan added her second goal of the game, putting the Owls ahead, 3-0.
 
After the Owls third goal, WWU scored three minutes Scanlan added her third goal of the contest. She took a pass from Alexis Willingham and put the Owls ahead 4-0. William Woods five goal of the game was scored by Dani Bray with 17:25 left in contest.
 
Late in the second half, the Owls Jaclyn Zilch was taking down for a foul in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Zilch scored and put the Owls ahead 6-0. WWU came away with a 6-0 victory over the Trojans.
