CONWAY, Ark. – For the second straight contest, the William Woods University women's soccer team defeated an American Midwest Conference opponent, 6-0. On Saturday evening the Owls defeated Central Baptist College, 6-0.
WWU defense did not allow the Mustangs to take a shot in the match.
The Owls return to action on Monday, September 25th when they travel to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas to face Williams Baptist College. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
Game Flow
The Owls offense came out looking to score early in the contest as
Aurora Henriksen had the first shot less than three minutes into the match. However, her shot went high. The Owls proceeded putting three straight shots on goal but Sara Calzada recorded the saves.
After two more shots went wide and high, the Owls
Shelby Scanlan took a shot with 34:06 left in the first half, but her shot hit the post keeping the game scoreless. The Owls had three more shots on goal but Calzada recorded the saves.
With 24:54 left in the first half,
Lexi Rosa put the Owls on the board with a goal. Fifty-four seconds later, Stark scored after taking a pass from
Jenna Vogt. WWU led 2-0 with 24 minutes to go in the first half.
WWU continued to put shots on goal but could not get another shot past Calzada and WWU took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Like the first half, the Owls came out looking to score quick. After a shot went wide,
Leah Bonugli hit the second post of the contest. Eight minutes later, the Owls grew its lead to 3-0 when
Aurora Henriksen scored her eighth goal of the season.
The Owls offense was not done as they had its next six shots either be wide, blocked or saved. However, with 15:46 left in the half, the Owls
Jaclyn Zilch found Henriksen for her second goal of the contest putting the Owls ahead, 4-0. Three minutes later, Vogt picked up her second assists in the match when she found
Shelby Scanlan for a goal extending the Owls lead to 5-0.
After two straight shot opportunities were saved by Calzada, the Owls Scanlan added a goal growing the WWU lead to 6-0 with 6:50 left in the contest. Scanlan's goal was the last goal for the Owls and WWU won 6-0.
