Three First Half Goals Leads Men’s Soccer Past WBC

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – The William Woods University men's soccer team scored three times in the first half en route to a 3-0 shutout victory over Williams Baptist College on Monday afternoon. The shutout for the Owls is the fifth shutout of the season.
 
Leading the Owls in the contest was senior Rodrigo Alves who scored two goals. Darren Wilson scored one goal and assisted on another goal leading the Owls to its sixth straight victory. The Owls improve to 7-2-2 and 4-0 in AMC play.
 
The Owls return to action on Saturday, September 30th when they host Lindenwood University-Belleville at Firley Field. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
 
Game Flow
William Woods offense came out and put pressure on the Eagles defense early. Within the first three minutes of the contest, Rodrigo Alves had a shot saved by Abel Garcia. A minute later, Alves put the Owls ahead, 1-0. David Marshall found Alves on a crossing and Alves put the ball into the bottom right corner of the net for the first goal of the match.
 
The Owls did not waste long to score again as two minutes later Alves had his second goal of the contest. He took a pass from Darren Wilson and Alves shot and put the ball past the goalie to the back-left corner putting the Owls ahead, 2-0.
 
Seven minutes later, the Owls found themselves ahead 3-0. Roberto Duro Sanchez sent a long ball into the box and Darren Wilson came in and kicked the ball in putting the Owls ahead by three goals.
 
William Woods continued to put shots on goal as Logan Christopher, Anthony Moscatello and Duro Sanchez had shots on goal but their shots were saved. The Eagles put two shots on goal but the Owls goalie, Conor Cable, recorded the saves keeping Williams Baptist scoreless. Going into halftime the Owls led 3-0.
 
Williams Baptist continued to battle in the second half as Giovanni Souza had a shot go wide of goal with 33:42 left in the contest. He had two other shots in the half go wide of goal as well.
 
The Owls offense slowed down on shots in the second half as they only had one shot in the half, a shot by Victor Faure missed high with 6:45 left in the match. WWU did not allow the Eagles to have a shot on goal in the second half. WWU came away with a 3-0 victory over WBC for its sixth victory in a row.
