Men’s Soccer Wins Seventh Straight Contest

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's soccer team won its seventh straight contest with a 1-0 victory over Lindenwood University – Belleville on Saturday afternoon at Firley Field.
 
Anthony Moscatello scored the lone goal in the game with 36:37 left in the contest for the game-winning-goal. WWU outshot the Lynx 18-12 in the match and 9-4 on shots on goal.
 
The Owls return to action on Saturday, October 7th when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri to face St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
 
Game Flow
Thirty seconds into the contest, the Owls had a great scoring chance as Rodrigo Alves was open in the box but he missed his shot high of goal. WWU continued to put pressure on the Lynx defense as Alves, Pedro Ferro and Roberto Duro Sanchez, had shots that were saved. Darren Wilson missed a shot wide of goal in the first 15 minutes of the contest.
 
Lindenwood-Belleville come back and Andrews Garza had a shot that Josh Clark blocked. Two minutes later, Alan Uechi had a shot that Conor Cable made a diving save to keep the game scoreless. Both teams continued to have scoring opportunities but neither team could score and the game went into halftime scoreless.
 
The Owls had the first scoring chance in the second half as David Marshall had a shot that Joan Carlos Perez made the save. Two minutes later, Arnau Folguera had a shot that Cable saved to keep the game scoreless.
 
After two straight offsides calls on the Owls, David Marshall sent a ball into Anthony Moscatello, who was behind the defense, who scored his first goal of the season as he beat Joan Carlos Perez, putting the Owls ahead 1-0.
 
The Lynx came back and looked to answer when Pablo Mora had a shot on goal but Cable made the save. A minute after the save by Cable, the Lynx had another scoring chance but the Owls blocked the shot.
 
Late in the second half, Pablo Mora had the best scoring chance of the day for the Lynx as he took a shot from 25 yards out and it went over Cables hands and hit the crossbar staying out of the goal.
 
Neither team put a shot on goal the rest of the contest and the Owls came away with a 1-0 victory. The win for the Owls was its seventh straight and it was Conor Cables five straight shutout. With the win, the Owls improved to 8-2-2 on the season and 5-0 in AMC play.
