HENDERSON, Tenn. – The William Woods University volleyball team recorded its fourth straight sweep on Friday night as they swept the Lady Lions of Freed-Hardeman University. The Owls won 25-23, 25-18, 25-11 to win its 13th straight contest.

Rayleen Rivera led the Owls with 10 kills while
Kate Doerhoff followed with eight.
Brittney Engelbrecht dished out 19 assists in the match.
Jessica Jensen had a game-high 14 digs. WWU hit .256 as a team in the contest.

The Owls return to action on Wednesday, October 4th when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri to face Saint Louis College of Pharmacy. Match starts at 7 p.m.

Game Flow
The Owls came out in set one claiming the first three points of the match as
Kate Doerhoff and
Kira Krebill had kills. WWU stretched the lead to 6-2 before the Lady Lions started chipping away at the Owls lead. After a kill by Alex Britt the Owls lead was down to one, 10-9. WWU continued to lead and led by three, 19-16, after an
Brittney Engelbrecht service ace. However, Freed-Hardeman came back and took the next four points taking a 20-19 lead. WWU answered and tied the match at 21-21, and 23-23 before kill by
Abby Ferguson and an Britt attack error gave the Owls the first set, 25-23.

WWU looked as if it was taking an early lead in the second set but the Lady Lions had other plans as they kept the game close and tied the set at 5-5 after an Engelbrecht ball handling error. Freed-Hardeman stretched its lead to 9-5 over the Owls before WWU answered. After finding itself down, the Owls scored the next six points capped by a
Remie Johnson. Freed-Hardeman took one more lead in the set but the Owls answered back and took a 15-12 lead after a block by Ferguson and Johnson. WWU did not let the Lady Lions back in the set and a kill by Krebill gave the Owls the set, 25-18.

William Woods came out and scored eight of the first 12 points of the third set. WWU continued to lead and back to back kills by Rivera and Krebill put the Owls ahead 13-7 in the third set. WWU led 15-9 before Freed-Hardeman scored back to back points. After the Lady Lions trimmed the lead down to 15-11, the Owls did not let the Lady Lions score again and WWU scored the final 10 points of the match. During the Run the Owls took advantage of errors by the Lady Lions and had kills by Johnson and Ferguson. WWU took the third set, 25-11, for its fourth straight sweep and its 13th straight victory.
