Women’s Basketball Falls to Hot Shooting No. 21 Lindenwood-Belleville

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The William Woods University women's basketball team was defeated by No. 21 Lindenwood University-Belleville on Tuesday night in American Midwest Conference action. The Lynx shot 55 percent in route to an 86-68 victory over the Owls.
 
William Woods (7-6, 5-3 AMC) had four players in double-figures led by Bailey Rollins and Peyton Greenlee, who had 13 points each. Jasmine Brown followed with 11 and Kaycee Gerald had 10 points, respectfully. WWU shot 44.3 percent from the floor.
 
WWU returns to action on Thursday, January 4th when they host Central Baptist College. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at Anderson Arena.
 
Game Flow
Peyton Greenlee came out scoring for the Owls as she scored the Owls first seven points of the contest. With the Owls down 4-3, Greenlee hit a runner in the paint taking a 5-4 lead. A few minutes later, Greenlee tied the game at 7-7 with another runner in the paint. Lindenwood-Belleville took a five-point lead, 17-12, late in the first quarter but the Owls came back and tied the game at 17-17 after a Kaycee Gerald three. WWU tied the game at 19-19 when Hannah Bland hit a layup, but the Lynx scored the final three points of the quarter and the Owls trailed 22-19 after one quarter of play.
 
William Woods came out and scored the first three points of the second quarter tying the game at 22-22. After the game was tied, the Lynx went on a 16-2 run taking a 38-24 lead over the Owls. Lindenwood-Belleville's run was capped by a Sydney Kremer three-pointer that came off an Owl turnover. Late in the second quarter, the Owls found themselves down 41-29 but WWU could not get any momentum going as they scored two points the rest of the quarter and trailed 46-31 at halftime.
 
The Owls and Lynx came out and traded baskets opening the second half. With the Owls down, 52-37, WWU started chipping away as Katharyn Nolan hit a layup and Jasmine Brown had a jumper in the paint taking the Lynx lead down to 11, 52-41. The Lynx followed by going on a 9-0 run taking a 61-41 lead with 2:19 left in the third quarter. WWU scored four more points in the quarter and trailed 69-45 after three quarters of play.
 
After trailing by as many as 27, 78-51, the Owls continued to battle. Bailey Rollins got the offense clicking and the Owls shots started falling. Over a two minutes span, the Owls went on an 11-1 run trimming the Lynx lead down to 17, 79-62, after a Nolan Jumper. This would be as close as the Owls would get in the contest and they would fall to No. 21 Lindenwood-Belleville, 86-68.
