Women’s Basketball Runs Past Central Baptist, 71-42

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team got back in the win column on Thursday night when they ran past Central Baptist College, 71-42, in American Midwest Conference action.
 
The Owls had four players score in double-figures led by Hannah Bland with 16 points. Jasmine Brown followed adding 12 points and Bailey Rollins and Peyton Greenlee added 10 points each for WWU. William Woods shot 43.3 percent from the floor in the contest.
 
WWU returns to action on Saturday, January 6th when they host No. 13 Lyon College at Anderson Arena. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
 
Game Flow
WWU got off to a slow start in the contest as they trailed CBC, 4-1. William Woods scored its first basket with 6:52 left in the quarter when Jasmine Brown scored a layup. After Brown's bucket, the Owls started scoring as they went on a 14-0 run taking a 15-4 lead. WWU held the Mustangs scoreless for a seven-minute stretch. Central Baptist scored the final six points of the quarter on threes by Emily Gardner and Kenda Cummings trimming the Owls lead down to five, 15-10.
 
The Mustangs continued to comeback as they scored the first four points of the second quarter cutting the Owls lead down to one, 15-14. WWU slowly extended its lead back to five, 22-17, after a layup by Hannah Bland. Central Baptist trimmed the lead back to one, 22-21, with 3:08 left in the quarter, but the Owls answered by closing the half on a 11-0 run capped by a Bland jumper and the Owls took a 33-21 lead into halftime.
 
WWU came out of halftime and grew the lead to 16 points, 41-25, over the first three minutes. The Mustangs could not get a basket to drop and WWU continued to stretch its lead out. After a layup by Bland the Owls led by 18, 47-29. WWU grew the lead to 24, 54-30, after a three-pointer by Bailey Rollins ended the third quarter.
 
The Owls led the Mustangs scoreless for the first three minutes of the fourth quarter and grew the lead to 30, 60-30, after a jumper by Jess Schmidt. With a 30-point lead, the Owls and Mustangs started trading baskets and with 2:29 left in the contest a jumper by Schmidt put the Owls ahead by 31, 69-38. WWU did not let the Mustangs back in the contest and WWU came away with a 71-42 victory.
