Volleyball Wins Tenth Straight; Down Pharmacy 3-0

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University volleyball team won its tenth straight match on Monday evening as the Owls defeated the Eutectics of St. Louis College of Pharmacy, 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-20) in AMC action. This is the second straight season; the Owls have had a ten-match winning streak.
 
As a team, the Owls recorded seven aces in the match and had six blocks. WWU had an attack percentage of .253 for the match. WWU was led by Tory Wiley, who had 11 kills on 24 attacks as she had a hitting percentage of .333.
 
WWU returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 2nd when they host Evangel University. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Anderson Arena. This is the fourth match at home of the Owls six-match homestand.
 
Game Flow
The Owls and Eutectics started off in a back and forth first set, and after a service error and ball handling error by the Owls, St. Louis Pharmacy led 6-4. WWU responded with a 5-0 run taking a 9-6 lead. Once the Owls took the lead, they never gave it back kills by Kate Doerhoff, Tory Wiley and a Eutectic attack error the Owls led 19-10. St. Louis Pharmacy trimmed the lead to six, 20-14, but the Owls scored the last five points of the set capped off by three Owls kills and two Eutectic attack errors. WWU came away with a 25-14 first set victory.
 
WWU came out scoring in the second set as they scored six of the first seven points. During the run, the Owls had kills by Wiley and Doerhoff and blocks by Jaclyn Zahn. The Eutectics did not go away quietly as they battled back and trimmed the Owls lead down to three, 15-12. WWU responded right back and scored four straight points capped by a Zahn kill and WWU led 19-12. WWU would take the second set, 25-15, after a Rayleen Rivera kill.
 
The third set bounced back and forth as WWU found themselves down 5-3 but answered back by scoring the next three points taking a 6-5 lead. With the set tied at 8-8 WWU scored the next three points, 11-8, after a service ace by Alli Gueck. William Woods slowly continued to extend its lead and grew the lead to 17-13, after a Wiley kill. WWU used a late 5-0 run taking a 22-15 lead capped by a Nise Salima kill. WWU looked as if they put the game out of reach when they led 24-17 but Pharmacy scored three straight points cutting the Owls lead down to four, 24-20. However, the Owls Wiley ended the match with a kill giving the Owls a 25-20 victory in the third set.
