ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 12 contests after earning a 5-0 victory over Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday afternoon.
The Owls outshot the Hornets 15-5 on the shots on goal in the contest. Four different Owls scored in the match.
The Owls return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 16th when they host Williams Baptist University at Firley Field. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
Game Flow
Neither offense could get anything going early in the match and
Jordan Henderson had the first shot in the game when his shot went wide of goal. Five minutes later following Henderson's shot,
Alberto Pitarch put a shot wide of goal.
The Hornets put the first shot on goal during the game when Adrian Diaz Alvarez recorded Harris-Stowe's first shot that was saved by
Iker Gonzalez.
The Owls
Darren Wilson had a shot with 28:16 left in the half that went high of goal. Four minutes later, Billy Nzajyibwami had shot that was saved by John Jancewicz.
After a foul was called in the box,
Darren Wilson took the penalty kick for the Owls. The shot was saved but he followed his shot and scored after John Jancewicz made the save on the PK.
Leading 1-0, the Owls looked to extend the lead and late in the first half,
Wessel Albers sent a cross into the box, where
Tres Caroo headed the ball home extending the Owls lead to 2-0. WWU took the 2-0 lead into halftime.
William Woods extended the lead early in the second half. Less than two minutes into the half, Albers sent another ball into the box on a cross, and this time,
Stefan Simic headed the ball passed Jancewicz giving the Owls a 3-0 lead.
WWU continued to attack the Hornets net as they had three shots that were saved prior to the Owls fourth goal. With just over 36 minutes left in the contest, Billy Nzojybwami scored growing the Owls lead to 4-0.
The Owls lead grew to 5-0 with just under 23 minutes left in the match.
Ethan Roth found
Yamac Aytekin, who sent the ball into the box and found Caroo who headed his ball into the back of the net for his second goal of the game.
Gonzalez continued to keep the Hornets quiet as he recorded five saves in the contest keeping the Hornets off the board. The last chance for the Hornets came with 30 seconds left in the match when Felipe Campos had a shot that Gonzalez saved.
