Women's Soccer Downs Harris-Stowe, 3-2

St. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team captured their eight win on the season as they defeated Harris-Stowe 3-2 Saturday afternoon. The Owls now move to 8-5-1 overall and 6-1-1 in AMC play.
 
Aurora Henriksen, Colleen Bayer and Abby Prather-Turner all scored for the Owls in the contest.
 
The Owls return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 16th when they host Williams Baptist University at Firley Field. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Owls looked to attack early on in the first half. Nine minutes into the first half Colleen Bayer kicked in a goal that just missed the goalie's hands and put the WWU ahead 1-0. Six minutes later, Bayer attempted another shot on goal that was saved by goal keeper Camila Chaves.
 
Down a goal, the Hornets look to make their own run when Georgia Herrington found Torrie Helms for Harris-Stowe's first goal of the match. Midway through the first half Aurora Henriksen tried to put the Owls ahead but her attempted would miss wide of the goal.
 
With 13 minutes remaining in the half, Paula Ulreich got open and attempted a shot that missed high over the goal. With the game tied 1-1 Rachel Humble found room and attempted a shot on goal that was save by Chaves.
 
As time continued to come off the game clock, WWU was determined to get the lead before the half. At the 3:36 mark, Henriksen was able to kick in a goal that bounced off a defender and gave the Owls a 2-1 lead. The Hornets would not attempt to score, and William Woods walked into halftime ahead.
 
William Woods returned from halftime with the same energy that had in the first. With less than 10 minutes of the game clock, Claire Stark attempted a shot for the Owls that was saved by Chaves.
 
The Hornets struggled early in the second half not recording a shot. Midway through the half, McKenzie Gourley attempted a shot on goal but would be denied by the hands of Chaves. At the 22-minute mark, Gourley attempted another shot, but this time she would miss high above the goal.
 
With 19 minutes to go in the second half, Rosara Henrendez Sastine was able to find the goal and tie the game at 2. William Woods would get the lead back at the nine-minute mark when Abby Prather-Turner scored off a free kick and put the Owls ahead 3-2.
 
Harris-Stowe would make one last push in the final minutes when Ulreich attempted a shot that was saved by Owls goal keeper Abbey West. WWU would go on to win the match 3-2.
 
The Owls had seven players attempt a shot on the night. Gourley led with four attempts, while Stark, Henriksen and Bayer followed with two each. Shelby Scanlan, Humble and Prather-Turner each recorded one in the contest.
