FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team fell shot Saturday afternoon as they lost to Park University, 2-0. WWU outshot the Pirates 21-11 and 5-4 shots on goal.
Prior to the match, the Owls honored its seven seniors.
The Owls return to action on Oct. 23rd when they travel to Belleville, Ill. to face Lindenwood University-Belleville. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
Game Flow
The Pirates looked to get things started early with a shot attempt coming from Anna Witherell. Her attempt hit off the crossbar but would be rebounded and headed back in by Lenvix Ochieng which gave Park a 1-0 lead.
WWU looked to respond quickly with a shot attempt coming from
Shelby Wiebe but her shot would miss wide of the goal.
Ten-minutes into the first half, Isabel Sullivan looked to increase the Pirates lead but could not connect as her shot missed wide of the goal.
Midway through the half,
Aurora Henriksen attempted a shot the was saved by the Pirates. The Owls had multiple opportunities to get on the board but had a hard time connecting on shots.
In the final minutes, Sullivan attempted another shot before the half, but
Abbey West was there for the save and Park would walk into halftime ahead 1-0.
William Woods returned from halftime in full attack mode.
Claire Stark attempted a shot on goal, but it would be saved by Pirates goal keeper Alyssa Gregory. Two-minutes later, Henriksen attempted a shot but would miss high of the goal.
WWU had multiple shot attempts on goal but could not find away to score.
After 25 scoreless minutes, Maddy Russel found Ochieng for her second goal of the night and pushed the Park lead to 2-0. William Woods continued to fight but could not get over the hump and Park would win the match 2-0.
