Men's Soccer Defeats Lindenwood-Belleville 3-1


BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The William Woods University men's soccer team captured their fifth straight win tonight as they defeated Lindenwood-Belleville 3-1.
Nzojyibwami and Victor Faure were the only two goal scorers for the Owls.
 
William Woods had six players attempt a shot on the night. Nzojyibwami, Faure and Jon Buerge each recorded two shots on the night.
 
WWU returns to action Oct. 26th for their final regular season game against Columbia. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Columbia College.
 
Game Flow
William Woods looked to get things started with a quick shot attempt coming from Buerge. His attempted missed wide of the goal and would keep the score tied 0-0. 
 
Ten minutes into the half, Roberto Duro-Sanchez was able find Nzojyibwami on the break and give WWU a 1-0 lead. 2-minutes later, Stefan Simic found Nzojyibwami for his second goal of the night and push the lead to 2-0.
 
Down by two, Lindenwood-Belleville looked to make their own attack. With 23:10 remaining in the first half, Renan Pereira attempted a shot but Iker Gonzalez would be there for the save.
 
The Owls continued attacking but did not connect on any shots. In the final seconds of the half, Stefan Simic attempted a shot but it would be saved by Lynx goalkeeper Adrian Mana.
 
WWU entered halftime ahead 2-0.
 
William Woods carried over the momentum that was started in the first half. Within five minutes of the half starting, Darren Wilson attempted a shot for that Owls but would miss wide of the goal.
 
After struggling the first half, Lindenwood-Belleville finally got on the board when Alan Uechi found Umar Mohamed for a goal and made the score 2-1.
 
With 2-minutes remaining in regulation, Faure was able find room and score the final goal for the Owls and give them a 3-0 advantage.  Nikola Vlasic attempted a shot for the Lynx but it would be saved by Gonzalez.
 
The Owls went on to win the match 3-1. WWU is now 9-0-1 in the American Midwest Conference.
