Owls Shut Out LUB in AMC Quarterfinals, 1-0

FULTON, Mo. ­– The William Woods women's soccer team shut out Lindenwood University-Belleville in the opening round of the American Midwest Conference Tournament, 1-0. With the win, the Owls move to 11-6-2 on the season.

The Owls will next host No. 8-seed Freed-Hardeman University in the semifinal round of the AMC Tournament on Monday, November 5. The game time is TBD. FHU knocked off No. 1-seed Missouri Baptist in the opening round with a 2-0 shutout.

Also moving on to the semifinal round is No. 2-seed Columbia and No. 3-seed Park.

"I'm very proud of this team," stated first-year head coach Lauren Robb. "The work rate and effort tonight was at a high level. We knew it was going to be a tough game start to finish and they worked us hard for the whole 90 minutes."

Game Flow
LUB came out firing to start the game, outshooting the Owls 3-1 throughout the first 11 minutes, but the Owls answered back with three shots, two on goal from McKenzie Gourley over the next six minutes.

Claire Stark took her first shot on goal in the 30th minute but was unable to get past their keeper.

The Owls took two more shots before Abby Prather-Turner found Claire Stark off the cross and Stark punched the ball just under the keeper to score the first goal of the game. 

LUB took two more shots before the halftime buzzer but keeper Abbey West made her third and fourth saves to keep the Owls up 1-0.

The Owls looked to add a second goal to the board in the second half, but Gourley and Shelby Wiebe's goals went wide. Stark and Wiebe took two more shots in the 66th and 68th minute but both went around the net.

LUB took their only two shots on goal midway through the second half but West grabbed the save on each.

The Owls held possession throughout the rest of the game and concluded it with the 1-0 shutout.
