Owls Draw with FHU, Advance to AMC Championship with PKs

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team ended in a scoreless draw with Freed-Hardeman University Monday evening, but for the second straight year, they will advance to the American Midwest Conference  Championship after winning the shootout, 5-4. The Owls are now 11-6-3 on the season.

"I'm so proud of these Lady Owls!" stated Head Coach Lauren Robb. "They worked hard and controlled the majority of the game. This game was a complete team effort. From everyone on the field and players on the bench, it took everyone's support. It feels great to come away with the W!"

The Owls will face No. 2-seed Columbia College in the AMC Championship game on Thursday, November 8, at 6 p.m. The game will be held at Marvin Owens Field on the campus of Columbia College.
 
 
Game Flow
The Owls took 11 shots in the first half with six landing on goal while the defense held FHU to just four shots.

The Owls managed to fire off 24 shots in the second half with 12 landing on goal, but FHU's keeper was there for each of the shots. Neither team managed to find the back of the net in regulation, sending the game into overtime.

Abby Prather-Turner took both shots in the first overtime but was unable to connect. The Owls defense held FHU to just one corner kick in the 10 minutes of play.

Prather-Turner took two more shots on goal in the second overtime, and McKenzie Gourley fired one off but neither were able to find the back of the goal. The Owls defense did not allow FHU to get a shot off in the final 10 minutes of play.

After 110 scoreless minutes, Taylor Hoeltke took over in goal for the shootout. After both teams went 4-4 on PKs, WWU missed their first PK. Hoeltke stopped FHU's next one to keep both teams at 4-4. The Owls found the back on the net on the next PK and Heltke made a huge stop on FHU's final PK to send the Owls to the Championship game of the AMC Tournament.
