Men's Soccer Advances to AMC Semi-finals with 3-0 Shutout Over Park

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's soccer team shutout Park in the opening round of the American Midwest Conference Tournament 3-0 Saturday afternoon. With the win, WWU moves to 13-3-3 and 10-1-1 in the AMC.
 
The Owls will host No.3 seed Missouri Baptist on Tuesday, November 6th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Firley Field.
 
Also advancing to the second round of the AMC Tournament, is Columbia and Lyon who will also play on November 6th.
 
Game Flow
The Pirates were the first to attack in the opening minutes of the first half. Rafael Pinherio attempted Parks first shot but missed high of the goal. 3-minutes later, William Woods had attack of their own when Alberto Pitarch attempted a shot on goal that was saved by Park goal keeper Logan Galvin.
 
Park continued to attack with another shot attempt coming from Anikor Emeke that was saved by Iker Gonzalez. Immediately following his first attempt, Emeke attempted another shot but this time is was blocked by Roberto Duro Sanchez
 
After 30-minutes of scoreless action, WWU was finally able to put a point on the board when Duro Sanchez found the back of the net and put the Owls ahead 1-0.
 
Park did not get another opportunity during the half.
 
In the final seconds of the first half, Billy Nzojyibwami was granted a penalty kick that went in a gave WWU a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
 
Ahead 2-0, the Owls returned from halftime determined to stretch their lead. They did exactly that when Jordan Henderson found Nzojyibwami for a goal and gave WWU a 3-0 lead.
 
Park continued to fight but could not connect on any of their attempts and would fall to William Woods 3-0.
 
After the game, Coach Mason had this to say: "We played better in the second half and secured the win early in the second half with an early goal. Park had early opportunities and looked dangerous in the first half. They are a solid team and went at us. We scored on a few key chances and went up 2-0 at half. Team defending wise, we were excellent the second half. We're extremely happy with the result."
