Late Game Comeback Attempt Falls Short at WBU

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – A late game comeback attempt from the William Woods University Owls fell short at Williams Baptist University in their final conference game of 2018, 61-52. The Owls drop to 7-4, 4-2 in conference play heading into the holiday break.

The Owls travel to Greenville, Ill. Just before the new year for a non-conference game at Greenville University. The Dec. 29th game will have a 2 p.m. tip-off.
 
Game Flow
The Owls had a slow start to the game as they scored just two in the first quarter.

WBU pushed out an 18-point lead a short time into the second quarter, but the Owls found a 7-0 run to bring the game within single digits with 2:44 left in the half. WBU pushed the game back to double digits, and just before time expired, Tori Nesslage scored on a fast break to cut the game to 10, 28-18.

Kasey Hazell put the Owls on the board first in the second half. Despite cutting the game to eight, WBU pushed out their lead to 16 with just over a minute in the third quarter. Bailey Rollins hit a three to bring the game to 44-31, but WBU went 2-for-2 from the foul line to take a 15-point lead heading into the final quarter, 46-31.

After trailing by 18, the Owls sparked an 11-0 run over a two minute span to cut the game to seven, 53-46. After pushing it back to 10 with 1:01 on the clock, Rylie Cox hit a three with 15 second to play to bring the game back within seven, 59-52. The Owls fouled to stop the clock and WBU went 2-for-2 from the foul line to go up by nine with :08 on the clock. The Owls attempted a field goal but missed and WBU pulled down the rebound to end the game.
