FORT WORTH, Texas – The William Woods University softball team defeated University of St. Mary (Kan.), 12-3, in five innings on Saturday morning. The Owls were scheduled to face York College, but the NAIA Cowtown Classic was canceled because of weather.

Bre Logan pitched a complete game against the Spires and picked up the win. She went five innings allowing three runs and struck out seven. Ten different Owls collected a hit and five different Owls drove in two runs in the contest.

WWU returns to action on Friday, February 16th when they host Briar Cliff University in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. This will be the Owls home opener.

WWU vs. St. Mary
Game Flow
Bre Logan retired the first three batters of the game for St. Mary in the top of the first inning. In the bottom half of the inning, the Owls bats came to life.
Emma Walker was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.
Ari Arnold singled up the middle moving walker to third base.
Amanda Bouchey followed wit ha sacrifice fly scoring Walker putting the Owls ahead, 1-0.
Alli Massey followed with a triple to right center scoring Arnold and the Owls led 2-0 after one inning of play.

The Spires got to Logan in the top of the second inning when they took the lead, 3-2. In the inning, St. Mary took advantage of drawing walks and two hits to score three runs. Cassidy Harbert double to left scoring the second and third runs for the Spires.

With two outs in the bottom of the second inning, the Owls were threatening. Walker singled to short putting two on.
Celeste Sermeno walked loading the bases but could not get another run in and the Owls trailed 3-2.

William Woods regained the lead in the bottom of the third. With runners on first and second,
Bri Devellano double scoring one, tying the game at 3-3. WWU scored one more run on a
Devyn Burton ground out and WWU led 4-3 after three.

The Owls bats came to life in the bottom of the fourth inning when they scored eight runs on the Spires. WWU collected six hits and took advantage of three errors by the Spires. After four innings of play the Owls led the Spires, 12-3.

After allowing three runs in the second inning, Logan settled down and did not allow another hit to St. Mary. She struck out the side in the top of the fourth and retired the side in order in the bottom of the fifth. WWU came away with a 12-3 win in five innings.
