FULTON, Mo. –  The William Woods softball team went 2-0 in their Fulton Medical Center Invitational on Sunday afternoon. WWU defeated the Chargers of Briar Cliff University, 4-3, in the first game of the day and closed out the day with a 3-0 victory over Goshen College.

WWU returns to action on Saturday, February 24
th when they travel to Bartlesville, Oklahoma to face Oklahoma Wesleyan University in non-conference action. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

The Owls came out swinging after they were able to shut out Chargers 1, 2, 3 hitters.
Ari Arnold kicked things off with a walk and two batters later,
Amanda Bouchey also reached on a walk.
Emily Robinett came up and hit a single through the five-six hole to move runners into scoring position.

Celeste Sermeno scored Arnold putting the Owls ahead, 1-0. WWU extended its lead to 2-0 when
Amanda Bouchey scored on a wild pitch. After a walk to
Bri Devellano, the Owls had the bases loaded. Robinett came into score on a passed ball and the Owls lead, 3-0.

The Chargers came in the top of the second by reaching on a walk, and Brenna Oliver singled, scoring Brooke French. The Owls came out of the inning with one run scored against them, 3-1.

The Owls and Chargers would go four innings without scoring until BCU came out in the seventh inning to score two after two outs and after four Owls errors, 3-3. Briar Cliff scored on a Nicole Romero triple. Romero scored on a single by Rachele Heaton, tying the game.

The Owls had their last chance to score and would squeeze one run after one out and
Dacrie Depping came in to pinch hit. Depping reached by a hit by pitch and Ali Massey was the hero for the Owls by smacking a double and scored Depping and giving the Owls a 4-3 win. Â

Game Flow
The Owls came out swinging against the Maple Leafs when
Emma Walker sparked the Owls offense and hit a double.
Amanda Bouchey came up with two outs and hit a single to scoring Walker, and putting the Owls ahead 1-0, in the bottom of the first inning.

After six outs, the Owls came up to hit and the bats were coming alive after
Devyn Burton singled and
Jessica Bradfisch reached on a walk, the Owls had a runner in scoring position.
Lindsay Van Tress also reached on a walk to load the bases. With the baes loaded, Walker hit into a fielders choice scoring one and putting WWU ahead, 2-0.
The third inning would bring the last run of the game after Massey reached on a single and Bouchey executed a bunt to move Massey into scoring position.
Emily Robinett came in clutch for the Owls with a single up the middle to score Massey, giving the Owls a 3-0 lead.

The Maple Leafs threatened in the top of the fifth after two outs and an Owls pitching change. The Owls found themselves in a predicament when the Maple Leafs reached on a single and loaded the bases after two consecutive walks.
Madison Ausfahl was able to come out of the inning unscathed after ending the inning with a strikeout.

Goshen tried to get a threat going in the top of the sixth inning, but the Owls got a pop out behind home plate and a strike out ending the inning. In the seventh inning, the Maple Leafs led off with a single. With two outs, Sandra Rodriguez walked putting two on.
Allison Waskow got the next hitter to fly out and the Owls won 3-0.
