CONWAY, Ark. – The William Woods University men's basketball was defeated by No. 22 Central Baptist College, 78-60, on Thursday evening in American Midwest Conference action. WWU has lost six of its last seven contests.
Coming off the bench,
Jason Walker led the Owls with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting.
Brandon Vice followed with 12 points rounding out the double-figure scorers for the Owls. WWU shot 41.2 percent from the floor and committed 15 turnovers in the loss.
WWU returns to action on Saturday, February 17th when they travel to Batesville, Arkansas to face Lyon College. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
Game Flow
Early in the contest, the Owls,
DaShaun Stark hit a three putting the Owls ahead, 3-2. After a layup by
Brian Enriquez, the Owls led 5-4, with 17:20 left in the first half. However, a three by Ashford Golden put the Mustangs ahead, 7-5.
Central Baptist stretched its lead to 15-7 after a three by Victor Dukes with 12:31 left in the first half. WWU trimmed the Mustangs lead back to six, 18-12, after a layup by
Brandon Vice. The Mustangs stretched its lead back to 11, 27-16, with 7:15 left in the half.
Late in the first half, the Owls found themselves down 34-18, before they scored the next six points taking the Mustangs lead down to ten, 34-24, after a layup by
Jason Walker. The Owls only scored two more points in the quarter and WWU trailed 41-26 heading to halftime.
WWU continued to battle in the second half but they found themselves down 46-31 with 18:22 left in the half. WWU slowly chipped away at the Mustangs lead and a jumper in the paint by
Darrien Dickey put the Owls trailed 49-37.
The Mustangs and stretched the lead to 18 points, 58-40, after a pair of free throws by Percell Washington. Again, the Owls started chipping away at the lead and a three by
Matt Burgess put the Owls down, 58-45, with 11:55 left in the game.
William Woods continued to battle and after six straight points, two each from Vice, Enriquez and Walker, the Owls trailed by ten, 61-51, with 7:50 remaining in the game. The Mustangs stretched the lead back to 13 points before
Jason Walker scored four straight and had Central Baptist lead down to nine, 64-55.
WWU followed by going scoreless over the next three minutes and saw the Mustangs extend its lead to 18, 73-55, after a Golden jumper in the paint.
Matt Burgess broke the Owls scoreless drought with a fast break layup. WWU could not trim the Mustangs lead back down to single digits and were defeated 78-60 by No. 22 Central Baptist.
