Men’s Basketball Falls to Lyon, 76-53

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The William Woods University men's basketball team was defeated by Lyon College, 76-53, in American Midwest Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The loss is the Owls fourth straight.
 
Darrien Dickey led the Owls with 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting. Dickey also led the Owls with 10 rebounds in the contest. WWU struggled shooting from the field as they shot 28.9 percent for the contest.
 
WWU returns to action on Thursday, February 22 when they host St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. 
 
Game Flow
The Scots came out and held the Owls scoreless over the first nine and a half minutes of the contest. During the span, Lyon scored 12 points taking a 12-0 lead over the Owls. The run was capped by an Emir Sabic three-pointer.
 
William Woods got on the scoreboard with 10:39 left in the first half when Brian Enqriuez hit a pair of free throws. A minute later, Makenzie Fessler hit the first bucket of the contest for the Owls when he hit a jumper in the paint and WWU trailed 13-4, with 9:37 left in the half.
 
DaShaun Stark put the Owls down nine, 15-6, with 7:38 in the half when he hit a jumper in the paint. However, after the bucket by Stark, the Owls went scoreless over the next three minutes. Lyon stretched its lead to 17, 27-10, with 2:30 left in the contest. The Owls cut the lead down to 15, 31-16, after a Darrien Dickey jumper. WWU trailed 31-16 at halftime.
 
Over the first three and a half minutes of the second half, the Scots stretched its lead to 22, 40-18, after a Sabic three-pointer. Over the first three minutes of the second half, the Scots hit three three-pointers. A minute later, the lead grew to 23, 43-20, after a Justas Narusas three-pointer.
 
Finding themselves down 47-24, with 13:14 left in the contest, WWU scored six straight cutting the lead down to 17, 47-30, after a pair of free throws by Codi Whitlock. The Scots extended its lead back to 21 points, 55-34, after a jumper.
 
William Woods did not go away, as they slowly started to chip away at the lead and a pair of free throws by Brandon Vice put the Owls down 17, 60-43, with 5:54 left in the contest. That would be as close as they would get in the game, and the Scots stretched lead back to 20 points. The Scots defeated the Owls, 76-53.
