Softball Drops Two to Central Methodist

FAYETTE, Mo. – The William Woods University dropped a pair of contests on Tuesday afternoon to Central Methodist University. The Owls were defeated 4-2 in game one and dropped game two, 15-2, to the Eagles.
 
The Owls softball team returns to action on Sunday, March 4th when they take on Marymount California University in Torrance, California. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m. CT (12 p.m. PT).
 
Game One
Game Flow

The Owls and Eagles were locked in a pitchers duel early as neither offenses could get anything going. After the owls had a hit in the first inning by Emily Robinett, the Eagles put a runner on in the battom half on a walk.
 
Central Methodist's offense clicked into gear in the bottom of the third inning, with one out, Skyler Hime singled, and Hannah Steeby followed with a single. Hime came into score on an Addy Reardon double and Steeby scored on a passed ball putting the Eagles ahead 2-0.
 
The Eagles looked as if they would extend its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out and runners on second and third, Allison Waskow got the next two hitters to line out to shortstop and second base ending the inning.
 
Central Methodist continued to put runners on base in the bottom of the fifth. Steeby singled to short and then stole second base. After a walk and a hit to Alexis Jones the Eagles had the bases loaded. Waskow again did not allow the Eagles to score as she got Jordan Jenkins to strike out and Morgan Willis to pop out to end the inning.
 
The Owls came back and tied the game in the top of the sixth inning. Ari Arnold drew a walk to put a runner on for the Owls. Emily Robinett followed with her second hit of the game putting two on. Amanda Bouchey laid down a sacrifice bunt moving the runners up. Alli Massey followed with a single, scoring Arnold and Robinett tying the game at 2-2.
 
The game did not stay tied for long as Central Methodist answered back in the bottom of the sixth. With one on and two outs, Steeby hit a two-run home run putting the Eagles ahead, 4-2.
 
The Owls had one more at-bat looking to tye the game. Celeste Sermeno singled to lead off the inning, but that would be all the Owls would get as the next three hitters were retired and WWU fell to Central Methodist, 4-2, in game one.

Game Flow

The Owls bats stayed quiet over the first two innings while the Eagles bats came out smoking in the first three innings. After keeping the Owls quiet in the first inning, the Eagles came out scoring four runs on two hits taking a 4-0 lead.
 
In the bottom of the second inning, Central Methodist added to its lead. The Eagles scored four more runs on two hits while taking advantage of one Owls error growing its lead to 8-0.
 
In the top of the third inning, WWU scored its first two runs of the contest. With one out Emma Walker recorded a hit. Two batters later, Emily Robinett drew a walk putting two runners on with two outs. Amanda Bouchey singled scoring one for the Owls. Alli Massey followed and reached on an Eagle error, which score Robinett. After two and half innings WWU trailed 8-2.
 
Central Methodists offense continued to click in the contest in the bottom of the third inning. The Eagles scored seven runs on five hits growing its lead to 15-2 over the Owls.
 
WWU tried to get its offense going in the fourth inning as Jessica Bradfisch singled to right and Walker drew a walk. However, the inning game to an end with a ground out. In the fifth inning the Owls were retired in order and WWU dropped game two, 15-2, to Central Methodist.
