FORT WORTH, Texas – The William Woods University softball team went 1-2 on the first day of the NAIA Cowtown Classic. WWU opened the season with a 1-0 victory over Bacone, before losing the next two, 3-0 to Avila (Mo.) and 14-9 to Bethel (Kan.).
Emily Robinett led the Owls as she was 7-for-10 in the contest. The Owls batted .330 on the day and drove in 13 runs. WWU had an ERA of 5.60 over the Owls three games.
WWU returns to action tomorrow, February 10th as they close out their NAIA Cowtown Classic. WWU will face the University of St. Mary (Kan.) at 9 a.m. and York College (Neb.) at 1 p.m.
WWU vs. Bacone
Game Flow
The Owls came right out the gate in their season opener against Bacone College scoring three runs in the first inning.
Emma Walker reached on a walk and after a stolen base moved to third on a Darcie Depping groundount.
Ari Arnold came up and reached on an error, scoring Walker, putting the Owls ahead 1-0. Arnold would then come around to score after a single by
Amanda Bouchey, extending the lead to 2-0. With one out,
Alli Massey hit a single to score Bouchey, putting WWU ahead 3-0.
After three outs, the Owls stepped right back into the box and scored two more runs in the second inning. Walker once again reached on a walk and Depping and Arnold hit back to back singles, loading the bases. A single by Bouchey scored Walker and a shot by Massey scored Depping, growing the lead to 5-0.
It was not until the sixth inning when Bacone scored two runs. A leadoff double sparked the offense and a few Owls mishaps allowed the Warriors to reach the bases. The Owls were able to hold the Warriors to two runs and walk away with the win, 5-2.

Game Flow
The Owls and the Eagles went scoreless until the third inning. Avila came out with a leadoff single by Makenzie Musgrove and Mia Moreno followed with another single, placing the Eagles on first and third. Musgrove would not make it home being thrown out by Lindsey Van Tress.
Kaycee Dexter would be the one to score Moreno and Dexter would also find her way around the bases putting the Owls down 2-0. The Eagles added one run in the bottom of the fourth putting the Owls down 3-0.
The Owls threatened in the top of the sixth when
Lindy Wilson had a leadoff single. Wilson was forced out and Bouchey reached on the fielder's choice. Massey singled, and
Emily Robinett followed with a single and Owls threatened with the bases loaded. The string of hits would stop there as three Owls were left on base. The Owls would struggle to find a rhythm against the Eagles and fell 3-0.

Game Flow
The Owls and the Threshers came out swinging in the third game of the night. Bethel scored three in the first inning and the Owls answered back in the bottom of the second when
Emily Robinett had a leadoff single and
Jessica Bradfisch reached on a walk. With runners on first and second and two outs,
Regan Wilde singled and scored Robinett, putting WWU down 3-1.
The Threshers added three more runs in the top of the third before the Owls cut the lead down to one.
Celeste Sermeno would spark the Owls offense with a single and Bouchey reached on a walk. Robinett smacked another single and loaded the bases for the Owls.
After a force out at home,
Jessica Bradfisch came in clutch with a double that scored both Bouchey and Robinett.
Devyn Burton also had two RBIs, scoring
Bri Devellano and Bradfisch, putting the Owls down one, 6-5.
The top of the fourth brought forth five more runs from the Threshers and four more from the Owls, 11-9. In the bottom of the fourth, the Owls would get RBI hits from Robinett who hit a double down the right field line which scored two. Devellano tripled home two more for the Owls in the inning.
The Threshers added three more insurance runs in the top of the seventh extending their lead to five, 14-9, before the Owls came up to bat.
Emma Walker hit a double and with two outs, Massey joined her on the base with a single, moving Walker to third. The Owls were unable to string anymore hits together and ultimately fell 14-9 to Bethel.
