FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team split its American Midwest Conference doubleheader with Williams Baptist College on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Eagles took game one, 4-1, before the Owls responded for a 3-0 win in game two.

WWU returns to action on Friday, March 16 when they face Freed-Hardeman University in AMC action. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.

Game One
Game Flow
The Owls and the Lady Eagles were scoreless until the top of the second inning where the Lady Eagles scored two, after they managed to hit a single and reach on a walk. After a double by Tori Johnson, Williams Baptist found themselves up, 2-0.

Both teams pitching settled in during the contest and neither team could get anything going over the next three innings. In the fourth inning, WBC had the bases loaded and
Bre Logan got a ground out ending the inning and keeping the Owls down, 2-0.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Lady Eagles that would push two more runs across after single and three consecutive walks, scored the third run of the game. After another single by Jaye Chalk the Lady Eagles took a 4-0 lead.

The Owls chipped away in the bottom of the sixth when
Ari Arnold singled to lead off the inning.
Emily Robinett followed with a single and Arnold came around to score on a Lady Eagles error. However, that would be all the Owls would get in the frame and they would trail 4-1 going to the seventh.

After a one, two, three inning, the Owls came up to bat needing three runs to keep the game alive. After an out, WWU had back to back singles by
Lindsay Van Tress and
Madison Ausfahl. However, the next two hitters were retired, and the Owls dropped game one, 4-1.

The Owls scored first in the second game in the bottom of the second when
Amanda Bouchey, Lindsey Van Tress and
Lindy Wilson hit back to back to back singles and on Wilsons drove in the first run of the game as Bouchey scored putting the Owls ahead, 1-0.

Neither team scored until the bottom of the fifth inning when
Bri Devellano leadoff with a single and advanced to second on a successful bunt by
Emma Walker.
Ari Arnold came up and hit a double, scoring Devellano putting the Owls ahead, 2-0.
Emily Robinett followed with a single scoring Arnold extending the Owls lead to 3-0.

Allison Waskow continued to keep the Lady Eagles bats quiet over the next two innings. WBC got one hit in the sixth inning but left the runner stranded. IN the seventh inning, she walked the leadoff hitter before the pinch runner was catch stealing. Waskow than go Chalk on a strikeout and Ashley Lyons to ground out to end the contest. WWU came away with a 3-0 victory. Â
