Softball Wins Game One; Fall in Night Cap

CANTON, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team split its non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon with Culver-Stockton College. The Owls took game one, 4-0, before falling, 8-0, in game two of the doubleheader.
 
Allison Waskow led the Owls to the shutout victory in game one as she pitched a complete game three hitter. Devyn Burton led the Owls with four hits in the contests against the Wildcats. Emma Walker led the Owls with two RBIs.
 
WWU returns to action on Friday, April 13th when they travel to Conway, Arkansas to face Central Baptist College in AMC action. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
 
Game One
Game Flow

The Owls came out in game one with the lead after the first inning. After Ari Arnold led off with a walk, she went to second on an Emily Robinett single. With runners on the corner and two outs, Arnold came into score on a single by Devyn Burton.
 
Allison Waskow came out dealing in the bottom of the first inning. She got the first two hitters to ground out before allowing the first of three hits on the day to the Wildcats. Later in the inning, she got Ledbetter to foul out to end the inning.
 
With one on and two outs in the second inning, the Owls offense clicked again. Ari Arnold and Emma Walker hit back to back doubles scoring Lindy Wilson and Arnold growing the Owls lead to 3-0.
 
In the top of the third, Alli Massey hit a leadoff solo homerun to extend the Owls lead to 4-0.
 
The defense of both teams would control the next four innings and neither team scored. The Owls threatened in the top of the seventh but would not be able to push a security run across the plate.
 
Waskow did not allow the Wildcats to get anything going in the fourth, fifth, sixth or seventh innings of the contest as she only fasted one over the minimum over those innings. The Owls walked out of the first game with a 4-0 win.

Game Two
Game Flow

The Wildcats would be the team to come out swinging in the bottom of the first as the leadoff hitter reached on a walk. With Rains on second base, the Owls got the next two batters out before Cassie Burris hit a triple to right field putting the Wildcats ahead, 1-0.
 
The Owls threatened in the top of the second inning. With a single by Burton and a walk by Amanda Bouchey the Owls had two runners on. Lindsay Van Tress followed with a single, loading the bases. However, the Owls next two hitters were retired without the Owls scoring a run.
 
Moving into the bottom of the second, the Wildcats bats came to life. With two on and two out, Johnson singled to left field scoring one for Culver-Stockton. Burris drew a walk to load the bases for Ledbetter. With a 2-2 count, Ledbetter took the next pitch she saw over the center field fence for a grand slam. After two innings, WWU trailed 6-0.
 
The Owls threatened in the top of the fourth inning. Burton singled, Bouchey reached on single putting two runners on with no outs. After a round out, Madison Ausfahl drew a walk loading the bases. However, the Owls would leave the bases loaded as the next two hitters were retired.
 
After a scoreless top of the fifth for the Owls, the Wildcats needed two runs to end the contest. Burris hit a home run to center field leading off the inning. After a walk, Powers stole second base. Williams was hit by a pitch and McGovern walked loading the bases with no outs. Karg drew a bases loaded walk, which ended the game and the Owls dropped game two, 8-0, in five innings.
