CONWAY, Ark. – The William Woods University Softball team split its American Midwest Conference doubleheader with Central Baptist College on Saturday afternoon. The Owls won game one, 12-6, before falling 8-7 in game two.

The Owls offense scored 19 runs in the doubleheader and had 32 hits in the doubleheader. WWU had four home runs in the contests.
Emma Walker led the Owls at the plate by going six-for-nine on the doubleheader, including hitting three home runs and driving in seven.

The Owls return to action on Sunday, April 15th when they travel to Batesville, Arkansas to face Lyon College. First-pitch is set for 12 p.m.

Game One

The Owls trailed early in the first game as the Mustangs came out in the bottom of the first and scored the first run of the game. Alyssa Estrada and Kailtyn Goike walked putting two on. After an out, they advanced a base on a ground out. Central Baptist added a run and putting the Owls down 1-0.

William Woods came back and scored two runs in the top of the second inning. With two outs and a runner on third base,
Bri Devellano took a 1-2 pitch over the right field fence for a home run and putting the Owls ahead, 2-1.

The Owls stretched its lead to 3-1 in the top of the third inning. With one out,
Emma Walker came up to the plate and worked her way to a full count. With the full count, she hit a home run to center field extending the lead to 3-1.

The lead did not last long for the Owls as the Mustangs came back and tied the game in the bottom of the third inning. Central Baptist loaded the bases and Hunter Clark came up with an RBI single to left field. Baleigh Jackson followed with an RBI single tying the game at 3-3. The Mustangs continued to have the bases loaded with one out, but the Owls did not allow another run to score and the game was tied at 3-3.

The Owls bats continued remained hot in the top of the fourth inning. WWU batted around as they had eight hits and scored five runs in the frame. WWU's bats got hot after the second out of the inning with Devellano on second base. WWU followed with seven straight hits.

Just like the Owls, the Mustangs answered in the bottom of the inning. Three straight walks by the Owls loaded the bases for the Mustangs. After a strikeout, the Owls walked the next two hitters, which scored two runs for Central Baptist. The third scored on a fielder's choice and after four innings, WWU led 8-6.

The next two innings of the contests were scoreless. WWU's grew its lead to six in the top of the seventh inning. Amanda Boucey singled and Van Tress followed with a bunt hit. Devellano followed with a bunt single loading the bases. After a fielder's choice and a fly out, Walker came up with the bases loaded and two outs. On the first pitch she saw, Walker hit a grand slam to right center growing the Owls lead to six, 12-6.

Leading by six, the Owls
Madison Ausfahl, who came in earlier in relief, retired the Mustangs in order in the bottom of the seventh. WWU came away with a 12-6 win in game one. Â

The Owls jumped out to a quick lead in game two, as with one out,
Emma Walker hit her third homerun of the day. This was a solo homerun to right field that put the Owls ahead, 1-0.

Central Baptist threatened in the bottom of the second inning. Kaylee St. John led off with a single. After two outs, Gabrielle Mueller singled putting two on.
Allison Waskow got Brianna Nunn to ground out to end the inning.

William Woods grew its lead in the top of the third inning.
Ari Arnold led off with a single and Walker followed wit ha walk putting two on.
Emily Robinett sacrificed them up a base.
Alli Massey followed with an RBI single putting the Owls ahead, 2-0.
Devyn Burton followed with another RBI single and the Owls lead 3-0.

The Owls answered for two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Arnold reached on a fielder's choice. Walker followed with double putting two runners in scoring position. Robinett followed with an RBI single putting the Owls ahead 4-0. Massey followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Walker and putting the Owls ahead, 5-0.

Central Baptist answered back for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. After reaching on an error, Clark came around to score on a two-run home run by Jackson. The Mustangs added four more runs in the inning and led 6-5 after four innings of play.

The Mustangs managed to score its seventh run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Mueller singled up the middle and walk moved her to second with one out. Mueller scored on a Goike double growing the Mustangs lead to 7-5. The lead grew to 8-5 in the bottom of the sixth when the Mustangs Jackson singled in another run for CBC.

The Owls came up for its final at-bats of the contest in top of the seventh trailing by three. With one out,
Lindsay Van Tress doubled to deep left field getting the Owls offense started. After the second out of the inning, Van Tress moved to third on a
Lindy Wilson single, which brought the tying run to the plate. Arnold drove in on a single to right field putting the Owls down two, 8-6. On the play, Wilson ended up on third base for the Owls.

Walker singled to left field putting the Owls down by one, 8-7. Robinett followed with a single that loaded the bases and moved the tying run to third base for the Owls. However, the Owls could not get the tying run across the plate and they would fall to the Mustangs, 8-7, in game two. Â
