Women’s Tennis Downs Maryville, 5-4

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's tennis team, sponsored by Fulton Medical Center, returned to the court for the first time since March 17 and earned a 5-4 victory over NCAA Division II Maryville University on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The win for the Owls is its ninth victory over the season. Full results can be found below.
 
"Maryville is a good NCAA Division II team however we did not play our best tennis today," remarked Head Coach Justin Stuckey. "We have somethings to work on before the next match."
 
The Owls took the first two points of the match as they took No. 3 doubles and No 6 singles as Maryville did not have a player and won by forfeit.
 
In doubles, Maryville took No. 2 doubles as they won 8-4 over Felicia Cesar and Chelsea Steward. WWU rebounded by taking No. 1 doubles as Ana Zavala and Zlata Shuraeva came back to win 9-8 (3) over the Saints.
 
Heading to singles action, the Owls needed two points to clinch the match. It would not came easy as WWU dropped No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles.
 
The Owls Ana Zavala came up big and won No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-2, and the match was tied at 4-4. Coming down to fifth singles, Felicia Cesar clinched the match for the Owls with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
 
WWU returns to action on Thursday, April 12th when they travel to Topeka, Kansas to face Washburn University in non-conference action. Action starts at 1 p.m.
