FULTON, Mo. – The William woods University Men's Soccer Team kicked off the 2018 season as they faced No. 18 Central Methodist University. The Owls would lose a heartbreak as the Eagles scored with just over one-minute left in regulation.
The Eagles Junior Kazeem found Connor Blitz with just over a minute left for the game winning goal.
The Owls return to action on Friday, August 24th when they travel to Canton, Missouri to face Culver-Stockton College in non-conference action. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
Game Flow
The Eagles offense came out looking to score early as Rodrigo Paredes and Wilfred Nyamsi had shots on goal by
Iker Gonzalez recorded the saves keeping the game scoreless. A couple of minutes later, Andrass Szaraz had a shot on goal that Gonzalez saved.
The Owls had back to back chances to score when
Darren Wilson and Sefan Simic had a scoring chance, but the shots went wide. Four minutes later,
Wessel Albers had a scoring chance that was saved by Vince Gelei.
The Eagles and Owls went scoreless over the first 45 minutes of the contest.
WWU looked to get going early in the second half as
Roberto Duro Sanchez had a shot that was blocked by the Eagles defender. Later in the half,
David Marshall had a shot on goal that was saved by Gelei. Wilson followed with a shot that went high on goal.
After the Owls flurry of activity, the Eagles countered and Victor Luengo had a shot that saved by Gonzalez. The Owls countered as
Jagan Crane had a shot saved by Gelei.
Later in the game, the Eagles scored the lone goal of the game. With just over a minute left, Junior Kazeem found Conner Blitz who beat Gonzalez for the only goal of the game. WWU dropped the first game of the year, 1-0, to No. 18 Central Methodist.
