Women's Soccer Returns to Firley Field Saturday Night


FULTON Mo. - William Woods University women's soccer team returns to Firely Field, September 1st as they take on Sterling College (Kan.) in a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

About the Warriors
Sterling College enters the contest 1-0 for the 2018 season. Their win come on August 25th as they defeated Doane University 3-2. 2017 KCAC All-Conference Second team selection, senior Elena Lemus returns for the Warriors. Last season Lemus tallied in a team leading seven goals for the season. She recorded 32 shots with 17 shots being on goal during her junior campaign. She currently ranks No. 8 in NAIA Division I women's soccer for goals per game.

Last year Against Sterling
Last season the Owls traveled to Sterling College to take on the Warriors September 2nd.  The Owls walked away with 3-0 victory.  Shelby Scanlan scored the first goal for the Owls, while Aurora Henriksen scored the final two of the contest.

The Owls
WWU enters the match looking for their first win of the 2018 season. A win over Sterling will give the Owls their first win as well as their first home win. William Woods currently ranks No. 7 in NAIA Division I Women's Soccer for total saves (27), they also rank 22nd in Division I for saves per game (9).

Team Leaders
Junior goal keeper Taylor Hoeltke currently hold two NAIA Division I rankings. She ranks No. 43 in saves per game (6), and No. 45 in total saves (12). Freshmen Abby Prather-Turner is also playing well for the Owls as she currently leads the team with one goal for the season. Prather-Turner has also recorded five shots with three shots being on goal.

Shots for the Owls
On the season, the Owls have recorded 16 shots, with seven shots being on goal. Abby Prather-Turner leads the Owls with five shots. Aurora Henriksen follows with four shots. Prather-Turner and Henriksen have five of the goals seven shots on goal.
 
What's Next
On September 3rd the WWU will host Southwestern Christian University at 1 p.m. This match will be the second of four home games for the Owls.
