FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's soccer team grew its unbeaten streak to six games as they opened American Midwest Conference play with a 1-0 victory over visiting Missouri Baptist University on Tuesday night at Firley Field.
The shutout is the fourth shutout of the season for the Owls. WWU outshot the Spartans 22-1 in the contest and 10-1 on shots on goal. Midway through the first half the Owls scored the game winning goal.
WWU returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 15th when they travel to Batesville, Ark. to face Lyon College in AMC action. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
Game Flow
The Owls came out aggressive in the first half of the contest as within the first five minutes, the Owls
David Marshall had a shot on goal that was saved. His second shot came two minutes later when he fired a shot wide of goal.
WWU continued to attack the Spartans defense in the first half.

Luca Crivellari got into the shot category, but both shots were saved by Davide Bucarelli. The Owls
Tres Caroo followed with a shot that was saved.
The Owls defense did not allow the Spartans to get anything going offensively in the first half of the contest. WWU held the Spartans without a shot for the 45-minute half.
With just under 21 minutes to go in the half, Caroo found Billy Nzajyibwami who beat the Spartans goalie putting the Owls ahead 1-0. Following the goal, WWU kept the pressure up but could not get another goal and WWU led 1-0 at halftime.
Play continued to be physical in the second half of the game as there were 25 fouls called in the half. WWU's offensive pressure continued in the second half and Caroo had two shots in a minute span get saved by the Spartans.
The Owls continued to pressure the Spartans defense but could not get another goal. Late in the second half, the Spartans threatened on the Owls. Missouri Baptist sent a ball into the box and Richie Taylor had a shot that
Ben Faherty saved keeping the Owls ahead 1-0.
That would be the only shot attempt for the Spartans in the contest and the Owls came away with a 1-0 victory over Missouri Baptist in its AMC opener.
