KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The William Woods University volleyball team went 2-0 at the Avila Triangular on Friday evening. WWU started the day with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-12) over Cottey College and followed with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-17) win over Avila University.

With the pair of wins, the Owls improve to 8-7 on the season.

WWU returns to action on Monday, Sept. 17 when they host College of the Ozarks (Mo.) at Anderson Arena. First serve is set for 7 p.m.

WWU vs. Cottey
Game Flow
The Owls jumped out to a quick lead over the Comets as they scored the first five points of the first set. WWU continued to add to its lead after back to back attack errors for the Comets, the Owls lead 13-5. Cottey closed the gap to five, 16-11, but that would be as close as the Owls would let the Comets get. WWU scored the next five points taking a 10-point lead, 21-11. The Owls
Tory Wiley recorded a kill and took the first set 25-15.

With the Owls down, 3-2, in the second set, WWU went on a 13-0 run that stretched its lead to 15-3 over the Comets. WWU took advantage of the Comets mistakes in the run and
Remie Johnson had an ace to cap off the run. William Woods did not let the Comets back in the set and a
Kylie Zamboni-Cutter ace capped the set win for the win, 25-10.

William Woods jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the Comets to open the third set. The lead grew to 9-2 after a
Jessica Jensen ace. After the Comets scored its third point, WWU answered back with five points taking a 14-3 lead. William Woods did not let the Comets back in the set and WWU scored the final points of the match, on three kills by
Kate Doerhoff and WWU took the set, 25-12.

Game Flow
The Owls and Eagles were locked in a back and forth battle in the first set of its match. With the match tied at 5-5, WWU slowly stretched its lead to 10-7. Avila came back and trimmed the Owls lead to 10-9. The Owls went to 12-9 before the Eagles acme back and scored four straight taking a 13-12 lead over the Owls. After an Eagle attack error, the Owls had a lead of three, 16-13. WWU did not let the Eagles get back into the set and a kill by Rivera gave the Owls a 25-19 first set win.

William Woods raced out to a fast start in the second set as they scored six of the first seven points of the set.
Hannah Kuehl camped off the start of the run with a kill. Avila came back and after a service error by the Owls, Avila had the Owls lead cut down to two, 8-6. William Woods responded and grew the lead to 15-8 after a Johnson kill. The Owls lead was trimmed to four points by a kill by Johnson gave the Owls a second set win.

Avila had an early lead in the third set as they led 3-1 over the Owls. WWU came back and tied the match at 4-4 after an attack error by the Eagles. Avila grew its lead 10-4 over the Owls. However, the Owls battled back and tied the sets at 11-11 after a Johnson kill. WWU followed by taking advantage of three straight attack errors and WWU had a 14-11 lead. After taking the lead, the Owls did not give up the lead and WWU took the third set, 25-17 and the match.
