Volleyball Downs College of the Ozarks, 3-1

FULTON, Mo. – After dropping the first set of the match, the William Woods University volleyball team responded by taking the next three and defeating the College of the Ozarks, 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-17), on Monday night at Anderson Arena.
 
The Owls recorded nine aces in the match and Remie Johnson had a double-double with 12 kills and 29 assists in the match. Tory Wiley led the Owls with 14 kills as she had an attack percentage of .257. WWU recorded 10 blocks in the match.
 
The Owls return to AMC action this weekend, Friday, Sept. 21st when they travel to Batesville, Ark. to face Lyon College. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Owls and Bobcats went back and forth early in the first set and with the set tied at 4-4, the Bobcats used scored seven of the next eight points taking an 11-5 lead. William Woods would not go away as they battled and after an attack error by Ryley Thixton the Owls trailed 13-12. College of the Ozarks pulled away again and WWU responded and tied the match after a Tory Wiley kill and another attack error by the Bobcats. However, the Bobcats took the lead again and took the first set, 25-21.
 
The Owls answered back quickly in the second set. After a service error, Rayleen Rivera recorded four aces in a row. Following the ace run, the Owls had kills by Wiley, Kate Doerhoff and used the Bobcats mistakes to grow a lead to 9-0. After the Bobcats scored its first point the Owls scored the next two taking an 11-1 lead. The closest the Bobcats would get in the set would by six late in the set. WWU closed the set with kills by Hannah Kuehl and Rivera taking set two, 25-17.
 
College of the Ozarks looked to bounce back in the third set and after an Owl attack error the Bobcats led 8-4. Following the four-point lead for the Bobcats, WWU answered right back as they scored four straight points tying the match at 8-8 after a Johnson kill. Again, the Bobcats grew and a lead and the match was tied at 12-12. WWU slowly took the lead after taking advantage of the Bobcats errors and WWU led 22-17. A kill by Kuehl would give the Owls the set, 25-19 and WWU led two sets to one.
 
Opening the fourth set, the Owls scored the first four points as River, Wiley and Kuehl had kills and Rivera added in an ace. WWU would slowly try to grow its lead but the Bobcats stayed close. With the Owls leading 8-6, WWU scored three straight points taking an 11-6 lead. WWU continued to attack and after a Jaclyn Zhan kill the Owls led 15-9. College of the Ozarks had the Owls lead down to 11, 15-11, but the Owls answered and added to its advantage. WWU did not let the Bobcats back in the match and a kill by Wiley gave the Owls the set, 25-17, and match.
