FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team hosts Southwestern Christian University on Monday afternoon. This is the second game of a four game home stand for the Owls soccer team.
Home Stand
The Owls are in the second game of a four game home stand when they face the Eagles on Monday. The four game home stand is the longest of the season for the Owls. WWU opened the home stand Saturday night with a 4-0 victory over Sterling.
Goal Explosion
After scoring one goal in the first three games of the season, the Owls had a goal explosion on Saturday night. WWU scored two goals in each half, defeating the Warriors 4-0. Three different Owls had a goal in the contest.
Shelby Scanlan scored twice and
Shelby Wiebe and
McKenzie Gourley each had one goal.
Last Year vs. Southwestern Christian
Last year the Owls and Eagles faced off at Firley Field on September 10th. WWU came away with a 1-0 victory.
Aurora Henriksen scored the only goal in the contest. WWU outshot the Eagles 15-4 in the game and 7-1 with shots on goal.
All-Time vs. Southwestern Christian
Monday's matchup against the Eagles, marks the fourth time the two programs have met on the pitch. The Owls are a perfect 3-0 against Southwestern Christian. In the first matchup between the two schools, back in the 2015 season, WWU won 3-1 at Southwestern Christian.
Scanlan Scores Twice
In the second half of the Owls contest against Sterling, the Owls
Shelby Scanlan scored her first two goals of the season. Her two goals rank her fifth in the AMC in goals scored. Scanlan is coming off a junior season that saw her score 20 goals in the season, the third most in the AMC.
Career Goals
This season,
Shelby Scanlan is looking to move into the top five mark of career goals for the Owls. After her two goals on Saturday, Scanlan has scored 32 goals over her career at WWU. The fifth most goals scored is 34 goals by Danielle Peters during her career from 2004-07.
Shutouts
The Owls pitched its first shutout of the season on Saturday night against Sterling. WWU ranks 33rd in the nation in shutouts on the season. Vanguard leads the nation in shutouts with four this season.
AMC Women's Soccer
WWU is one of four teams AMC schools that have a win this season. The first AMC school with a win during the women's soccer season was Stephen College when they defeated Manhattan Christian College, 3-0.
What's Next
Following the matchup against the Eagles, the Owls return to action on Saturday, September 8th when they face Benedictine (Kan.) at Firley Field. First kick for WWU and Benedictine is set for 6:30 p.m.
