Women’s Soccer Scores Season-High 11 Goals in AMC Victory

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team exploded for a season-high 11 goals in an 11-0 victory over visiting St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Saturday afternoon at Firley Field.
 
The Owls Shelby Scanlan scored five goals in the victory. Her five goals are the most in a single game in WWU Women's Soccer program history. The Owls had goals scored by five different players. WWU outshot Pharmacy, 56-1, for the game.
 
The Owls travel to Hannibal, Mo. to face Hannibal-LaGrange University in AMC action on Tuesday, Sept. 25th. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Owls controlled the pace of play against the Eutectics as well as the ball control as WWU outshot Pharmacy 56-1 in the contest. WWU scored early and often against Pharmacy. Samantha Donaldson found Colleen Bayer, who scored and put the Owls ahead 1-0.
 
Just over two minutes later, Bayer scored her second goal of the game. McKenzie Gourley found Bayer this time and Bayer beat Kylee Lewis extending the Owls lead to 2-0. Less than three minutes later, the Owls lead was 3-0 when Shelby Scanlan scored her first goal of the day.
 
Leading 3-0, the Owls kept the pressure up as Scanlan found Shelby Wiebe for a goal putting WWU ahead 4-0 with 31:43 left in the first half. The fifth goal of the game was scored with 28:33 left in the first half when Aurora Henriksen found Scanlan. Scanlan scored putting the Owls ahead 5-0.
 
The scoring started to slow down for the Owls, but the attempts continued as WWU had 28 shots in the first half. The sixth and final goal of the first half came with 14 minutes remaining in the half when Henriksen found Scanlan for a goal putting WWU ahead, 6-0. This was Scanlan's third goal of the game. WWU would take the 6-0 lead into halftime.
 
Less than 30 seconds into the second half, Scanlan scored her fourth goal of the game and the seventh goal of the day for the Owls. After the goal, Pharmacy had one shot that was blocked by the Owls defender.
 
With just under 30 minutes to go in the second half, Bayer scored her third goal of the game when Gourley found her and Bayer beat Lewis for a goal putting the Owls ahead 8-0.
 
The game would stay 8-0 until 8:57 left in the contest when Gourley picked up her third assist of the game when she found Claire Stark for a goal extending the lead to 9-0. After a foul on Pharmacy, The Owls had a free kick and Abby Prather-Turner scored putting the Owls to a 10-0 lead. The last goal of the game belonged to Scanlan when she scored on a Leah Bonugli pass. This was the fifth goal of the day for Scanlan, which set a school record for the Owls.
