Volleyball Extends Winning Streak to Seven Games; Sweep CBC

CONWAY, Ark. – The William Woods University volleyball team stretched its winning streak to seven matches on Saturday afternoon. The Owls swept Central Baptist College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-17) for its second straight sweep.
 
The Owls had an attack percentage of .346 for the match. Jaclyn Zahn led the Owls with seven kills. WWU had six aces and six blocks in the match. The Mustangs committed 23 attack errors in the match and an attack percentage of .010 for the match.
 
The Owls return to action on Thursday, Sept. 27th when they host Williams Baptist University in AMC action. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Anderson Arena.
 
Game Flow
The Mustangs led early in the first set, 3-1, but the Owls answered right back and after back to back kills by Kate Doerhoff the Owls led 4-3. After CBC tied the match at 4-4, the Owls slowly started to pull away and a kill by Rayleen Rivera put the Owls ahead 14-7. The Owls did not let the Mustangs back in the set and the Owls Tory Wiley and Jaclyn Zahn teamed up for a block putting the Owls ahead 21-12. Jessica Jensen gave the Owls the first set with an ace. WWU led 1-0 after taking the first set, 25-15.
 
The Owls jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, but the Mustangs kept it close and after an Owl attack error, the Owls led 5-4. With the Owls leading 7-6, WWU scored three straight points capped by a Hannah Kuehl kill putting the Owls ahead, 10-6.  WWU continued to add to its lead and WWU stretched the lead to 17-10 after a Kayton Coffee ace. After the Mustangs scored two straight points, WWU scored seven straight points as they took advantage of the Mustangs errors. WWU took set two, 25-13 and led 2-0 heading to the third set.
 
William Woods found themselves down 5-3 in the third set before a Mustangs service error tied the match at 8-8. Neither team could take control and after another Mustang service error, the Match was tied at 11-11. After tying the game, WWU slowly started taking advantage. A kill by Wiley put the Owls ahead 14-11. CBC could not get closer than four for the rest of the match as WWU stretched the lead to six after a kill by Tess Schannuth. WWU scored the final four points of the third set and WWU took the set, 25-17 and match 3-0.
