FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University volleyball team won its ninth straight contest on Friday evening as they defeated Freed-Hardeman University, 3-1 (25-15, 25-27, 25-14, 25-16).

The win for the Owls moves them to 5-0 in the AMC on the season.
Kate Doerhoff led the Owls with 14 kills on the day. WWU had 14 aces against the Lady Lions in the match.

The Owls return to action on Monday, Oct. 1st when they host St. Louis College of Pharmacy. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Anderson Arena.

Game Flow
The Owls wasted little pulling away from the Lady Lions in the first set.
Kate Doerhoff recorded a kill and the Owls led 4-1 and WWU went ahead 5-1 after a ball handling error by the Lady Lions. Freed-Hardeman cut the lead down two, 6-4, but the Owls went on a run and extended its lead to double-digits. With
Brooke Reed serving the Owls scored 13 straight points taking a 22-5 lead. Freed-Hardeman battled back at the end of the set, but the Owls came away with a 25-15 first set victory.

The Lady Lions and Owls battled in a close second set as neither team could pull away. With the set tied at 5-5, WWU scored four of the five points taking a 9-6 lead. However, each run the Owls made the Lady Lions answered with a run of its own. With the match tied at 11-11, FHU scored the next three points taking an 14-11 lead. WWU answered back and took a 19-16 lead but the Lady Lions answered right back tying the match at 20-20. WWU and FHU traded points before the Lady Lions took set two, 27-25.

After dropping the second set, the Owls answered back quickly in the third set as they scored five of the first six points of the set. During the run,
Rayleen Rivera had two aces for the Owls. The Lady Lions started clawing back in the third set and after a Shea Dean kill, the Lady Lions trailed 8-7. However, WWU answered by scoring the next four points taking a 12-7 lead. With the lead at four, 16-12, WWU pulled away with a 6-0 run.
Kayton Coffee closed the run with three straight aces. WWU did not let the Lady Lions back in the set and WWU won set three, 25-14.

The fourth set belonged to the Owls early as they slowly grew a lead to five points, 8-3, early in the set. After the Owls lead was down to three, 9-6, WWU scored five straight points growing its lead to 14-6. Freed-Hardeman tried to chip away at the Owls lead by a kill by
Jaclyn Zahn put the Owls ahead 20-13. Freed-Hardeman could not get any closer and WWU took the fourth set, 25-16, and the match.
