BARRINGTON, Ill. – The William Woods University men's soccer team wrapped up its 2018 Chicago trip on Monday evening as they played Judson University to a 0-0 double overtime draw in the schools second ever matchup.
The only other time, the Owls faced the Eagles was during the 2006 season when Judson defeated the Owls. The Owls were outshot in the contest 18-9 by Judson. The Eagles also outshot the Owls on shots on goal, 6-3.
The Owls return to action on Saturday, September 8th when they host Missouri Valley College. The Owls and Vikings match will kickoff at 4 p.m. Missouri Valley is the NAIA Men's Soccer National Runner-up from the 2017 season.
Game Flow
In a game that was moved two times on Monday, the Owls got off to a quick start as they attacked the Eagles early. In the first seven minutes of the game,
Wessel Albers had a header go wide of goal keeping the game scoreless.
Four minutes later, Judson had the best scoring chances of the game. Luis Germano had a shot on goal that Owls goalie
Ben Faherty saved. A couple seconds after the shot Eduard Ruiz-Liebers had a shot blocked followed by Deigo Silva shot going high.
The Owls got its first shot on goal when they clock said 17:36. After an Eagle foul, the Owls Albers ahd a shot on goal that was saved by Ricardo Porcayo.
Judson had another good scoring chance two minutes later but Faherty recorded the save. The Owls had the next shot on goal late in the first half.
Logan Christopher had a shot with nine minutes to go in the first half, but his shot was saved by Porcayo. The Owls and Eagles would go scoreless into halftime.
The Eagles came out with the first real scoring chance in the second half. Abdel Abdelmalek had a shot hit the post that kept the game scoreless. Following the shot off the post, both teams had shot attempts, but the shots went wide or were blocked.
Judson continued to pressure the Owls defense late in the second half. With about 10 minutes remaining in regulation, the Eagles had two shot in 30 seconds that Faherty saved keeping the game scoreless.
The Owls had two shots in the final six minutes of regulation. The first shot was high by
Jordan Henderson and the
Wessel Albers had a shot go wide of goal. After 90 minutes of play the game was heading to overtime.
Judson controlled play in the first overtime period as the Owls did not get a shot. However, the Eagles only had one shot, which was saved, and we were off to a second overtime. WWU had the only shot on goal in the second overtime when
Victor Faure had a shot saved by Porcayo. Neither team could find the back of the net and the game would end in a 0-0 scoreless draw.
