COLUMBIA, Mo. – The William Woods University men's soccer team scored with two seconds left to force overtime and neither team scored playing No. 5 Missouri Valley College to a 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon.
As time was running out,
Victor Faure, took a corner kick and found found
Jordan Henderson for the game tying goal with just two seconds left on the clock in regulation.
The Owls start AMC play Tuesday, September 11th as they host Missouri Baptist. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Firley Field.
Game Flow
William Woods started the game in attack mode. Three minutes into the first half,
David Marshall had an attempt that went wide of the goal. Two minutes later,
Jordan Henderson attempted a shot that was saved by Vikings goalkeeper Patrick Irankunda.
Midway through the half, Sergio Toro Garcia was at the bottom of the box and sent a pass to Luka Gluscevic, who was at the penalty dot and Gluscevic took the shot and beat the Owls goalie to the bottom right corner of the goal putting the Vikings ahead, 1-0.
With the momentum on the Vikings side, Miguel Fernandez found Sergio Garcia for their second goal of the half pushing their lead to 2-0. Fernandez sent a long ball to the other end of the field and Garcia got the ball and beat the Owls goalie.
WWU would continue fighting but could not find a way to score and trailed 2-0 at halftime.
The Owls returned from halftime with the same aggression they had in the first half. With five minutes off the game clock,
Billy Nzojyibwami found
David Marshall for a goal closing the Vikings lead down to one.
WWU kept possession of the ball for the majority of the second half as they outshot the Vikings, 14-2 in the half. Halfway through the second half,
David Marshall attempted another shot that was saved by Patrick Irankunda.
WWU held the Vikings to three shots the entire second half. It was not looking good for the Owls as they had a few scoring chances late in the second half but could not capitalize. With under 10 seconds to go in the contest, the Owls rushed to get a corner kick in. As the clock was counting down,
Victor Faure sent the ball in and
Jordan Henderson headed the ball into the goal tying the game with two seconds left.
To start the first overtime,
David Marshall attempted a shot that missed wide of the goal. Marshall's goal was the only attempted recorded in the first overtime. The second overtime, Xavier Gladiador broke free for a shot attempt that was saved by
Ben Faherty. Neither team would attempt another shot and the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
