Women's Soccer Takes on No. 3 Benedictine Saturday

FULTON, Mo. –
William Woods University women's soccer returns to action this weekend as they take on No. 3 Benedictine College (Kan.) Saturday afternoon. The match is set for 4:30 p.m. at Battle High School in Columbia, Mo.

About Benedictine
The Ravens enter match 3-0-1 for the 2018 season. In their first match, they scored a season high eleven goals against College of St. Mary on August 20th.  Benedictine currently ranks second in the NAIA in total goals (26), they also rank second in the nation in goals per game (6.5).

Benedictine returns First Team All-Conference selection Emily Ambuul who currently ranks third in the nation for total game winning goals (2). They also return Molly Schmidt, Olivia Meyers and Anna Romano all of who were name Second Team All-Conference last season.  The Ravens also return Jr. Nicole Kelly who currently ranks number five in the nation for total goals (7).

The Ravens are rank 11th overall in the NAIA for shutouts per game with .075.
 
Last season against the Ravens
In the last meeting between the Owls and Ravens, Benedictine walked away with a 3-0 home victory. During the matchup, the Ravens outshot WWU 20-2. William Woods lead the game in saves with nine.
 
All-time vs. Benedictine
WWU and Benedictine have met up 25 times since 1989 where the Owls won 3-0 in their inaugural season. The Ravens have won every match since 2006.  The last win for WWU came on Sept. 27th, 2003 when they defeated the Ravens, 1-0. The Owls and Ravens played to a draw in 2005.
 
About The Owls
After a slow start to the season, William Woods enters the contest coming off a 3-0 victory over Southwestern Christian University. The Owls are currently on a two game-winning streak.
 
The Owls are currently ranked 11th overall in the NAIA for total saves (35) and number 13 in total shutouts (2). Senior Shelby Scanlan and freshman McKenzie Gourley both rank 34th overall in the nation for total game-winning goal. Taylor Hoetlke currently holds the 48th spot in the nation for total saves (19). 
 
Goal Scorers this Season
So far, Shelby Scanlan, Shelby Wiebe, Collen Bayer and Abby Prather-Turner all scored for the William Woods this season. Scanlan and Wiebe are the only Owls who have scored multiple goals on the season.
 
Opponents Outshooting the Owls
During the 2018 season, the Owls have been outshot, 81-68, and 42-33 in shots on goal. However, over the Owls last two matches, WWU has outshot the opponents. WWU had a 25-7 shot, 11-1 shot on goal, advantage over Sterling and outshot Southwestern Christian 27-11 and 15-7 on goal on Monday Sept. 3rd.
 
AMC Play Starts Tuesday
On Tuesday, September 11th, the Owls women's soccer team opens American Midwest Conference play against Missouri Baptist University at Firley Field. This will be the first of 12 AMC games, six of which will be held at Firley Field.
 
What's Next
What's next for the Owls is AMC play as they open play Tuesday, September 11th against Missouri Baptist. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
