FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team captured their seventh straight home victory Tuesday night as they defeated St. Louis College of Pharmacy 61-39.
Peyton Greenlee led the Owls with 16 points and snatched down 4 rebounds.
Kaycee Gerald chipped in 11 points and 9 rebounds.
Kasey Hazell also played well for WWU putting up 10 points and grabbing 9 rebounds in the contest.
The Owls return to action Thursday, Jan. 17th when they travel to Parkville, Mo. to face Park. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Game Flow
Just 20 seconds into the game,
Bailey Rollins knocked down a three-point basket, giving WWU a 3-0 lead. Shorty after,
Kaycee Gerald hit a midrange jump shot that pushed the lead to 5-0.
After nearly a minute and half into the first period, Gabrielle Morgan had a two-point finish in the paint giving the Eutectics their first points of the game.
At the halfway point, the Owls found themselves ahead 10-2 when Rollins knocked down her second three-pointer of the night.
Allison Dewald was able to slow down WWU when she knocked down a three point basket of her Own putting St. Louis Pharmacy down 10-5. She led the Eutectics with 12 points in the contest.
With two minutes remaining in the first period, Michon Forrest knocked down another Pharmacy three pointer putting them down four.
Two huge free throws from Dewald put St. Louis Pharmacy down 10-9. In the final 20 seconds of action, Morgan scored a fast break lay-up tying the game at 12 going into the second period.
After a hard fought first period, the Eutectics were able to gain a 16-13 lead over the Owls on a Dewald basket.
With 8:33 on the clock, Gerald tied the game at 16 when she knocked down her first three point basket of the night.
At the 6 minute mark, William Woods was able to gain a 25-16 advantage when
Ashleigh Frampton had a strong finish in the paint.
St. Louis Pharmacy continued to fight but would find themselves down 31-20 with 3 minutes left in the half.
William Wood would close the half by hitting three straight free throws giving them a 34-20 halftime lead.
At the start of the third period, Gerald had a nice finish in the paint that pushed the Owls lead to 16. St. Louis Pharmacy's Dewald responded by knocking down another three point basket putting the Eutectics down 36-23.
Shortly after the Dewald three-pointer, Morgan Rose knocked down a three point basket of her own putting Pharmacy within 10.
With 3:34 remaining in the third period, Greenlee knocked down a three pointer pushing the Owls ahead 45-29; their largest lead of the game. 30 seconds later, Makenzie Shierding returned the favor by knocking down a thee point basket of her own.
William Woods continued to hold a steady lead towards the end of the period. With 2 seconds left on the clock, Hazell beat the buzzer with a nice floater that gave WWU a 49-37 lead.
After three strong periods of play, WWU got off to a great fourth period start gaining a 56-37 lead. The Owls turned up the defense only allowing 2 points in the final period.
Katie French scored the final two points for the Owls at the foul line insuring a safe 61-39 win over St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
William Woods now moves to 11-6 overall and 7-4 in the AMC.
