Gerald Scores Career-High in Owl's Narrow Victory over Park

PARKVILLE, Mo. – The William Woods University Women's Basketball team narrowly defeated Park University Thursday evening for their fourth straight victory, 74-70. The Owls move to 12-6 on the season with an 8-4 conference mark.
 
Kaycee Gerald notched her third double-double of the season with a career-high 24 points and a season-high 14 rebounds. She shot 50 percent from the field and went 8-for-12 from the foul line. Kasey Hazell came up just short of a double-double, scoring 15 with nine rebounds. Ashleigh Frampton and Peyton Greenlee also scored in the double digits. 
 
The Owls return home for one conference game against Stephens College on Saturday, January 19, before heading out for a three-game road stretch. Saturday's tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Owls jumped to a 10-0 lead to start the game, and back-to-back-to-back buckets from Kasey Hazell gave the Owls a 14-point lead with 4:41 on the clock, 16-2. 
 
A three from Lexy Ganaway gave the Owls a 16-point lead with 3:08 on the clock, but Park whipped up a 12-0 run to cut the game to four and end the first quarter, 22-18.
 
A traditional three-point play from Kaycee Gerald and a three-pointer from Ashleigh Frampton gave the Owls back a double digit lead halfway through the second quarter, but Park once again cut the lead back down. With 1:41 on the clock, Park trailed by just five.

The Owls defense held Park from scoring in the final time while they added three more, sending the game into halftime with the Owls holding a 36-28 advantage.
 
The Owls pushed their lead back to 12 in the second half, but Park scored the final five points of the third quarter to bring the game within four, 49-45.
 
With 5:57 left in the game, Park tied it up for the first time. Ashleigh Frampton was fouled while scoring in the paint to take back the lead and made the and-1. 
 
The Owls pushed their lead to seven four times over the next two minutes. Park brought the game within three with 1:31 on the clock, but Gerald scored on the next possession to put the Owls back up by five, 72-67.
 
With 39 seconds to go, Park hit a three to bring the game within two, 72-70.
 
With more than 30 seconds left to play, the Owls drained the time before having to make their play. With 0:06 on the clock, Bailey Rollins scored in the paint to go up by four, 74-70. Park attempted a shot at the buzzer but missed, ending the game with a 74-70 Owl's win.
