FULTON, Mo. – Head Coach
Dan Chapla tied the program's all-time wins record with his 249
th win at the helm of the William Woods University women's basketball team Saturday afternoon. The Owls won their fifth straight against Stephens, 79-42. The Owls move to 13-6 on the season with a 9-4 conference mark.
Katie French scored a career-high of 20 points and led the Owls, also recording 6 rebounds.
Peyton Greenlee also helped the Owls with 14 points and 4 rebounds in the contest.
The Owls will look for their sixth straight win versus Harris-Stowe in St. Louis on Tuesday, January 22
nd. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Game Flow
The game started off with a field goal by Mikenna Burnett, giving Stephens a 2-0 lead.
With 8 minutes on the clock,
Ashleigh Frampton recorded WWU's first basket, tying it up with a two-point bucket.
Chalee Britt fired back with a three-pointer, which gave Stephens the lead 5-2.
The Owls and Stars played a close first quarter, both scoring 50% from the field leaving the game tied 19-19.
William Woods took advantage in the second quarter, starting with
Tori Nesslage's field goal from the paint, 21-19.
The Owls went on a 10-0 run as
Ashleigh Frampton recorded a two-point shot to put the Owls ahead 29-19 with five and a half minutes left. Burnett stopped the 10-0 run with a three-point bucket making it 29-22.
The Owls picked up another eleven points before halftime while holding Stephens to just three points in the last four minutes of the game.
William Woods led 41-25 going into halftime.
The Owls jumped right into the third quarter with a bucket by
Peyton Greenlee for a lead of 43-25.
The Owls dominated the third quarter having a lead as high as 34 points.
Britt recorded the last field goal of the quarter with 35 seconds left, which still left the Owls in charge 61-29.
The fourth quarter started with a free throw by Burnett making it 64-30.
From there, William Woods had no trouble taking their largest lead of 41 points with six minutes left in the game. This gave the Owls a 73-32 lead.
Kirstyn Eckhoff recorded the Owls' last shot, which gave the Owls a 79-40 lead with a minute and a half on the clock.
Stephens' Allison Harmon closed the game with a two-pointer, which led the Owls to victory over the Stars, 79-42.
